That is a tough sell to the fan base and for me an indictment on Dino. Sell the program.I will be surprised if our next DC isn't already on staff.

I hope your screenname runs true for this.I will be surprised if our next DC isn't already on staff.
Out of these 3, I believe it's #2. If the DC has already been hired, I don't see why they'd wait to announce it, especially wanting to get closure on the Arnett situation-No other school has waited to announce their new coordinators.Realistically, there are three scenarios right now:
1.) The DC has already been hired and signed his employee agreement. Effective starting date Feb 6th. This was done out of respect for the other coach or based on the new DC's request.
2.) They are in the final stages of interviewing candidates but because of recruiting & other commitments, they haven't been able to progress as quickly. Announcement in this case will be coming soon
3.) They will promote someone internally
The most likely is #1, followed by #2. JW & Dino seem to be old school, respectful people - so I wouldn't be surprised they know who it is and per a gentlemen's agreement they are waiting on the announcement. It could be #2, but this a huge priority, so if this is the case, my guess is that they are in the final stages of the process.
I think there is almost no chance of #3. If it was, they would have announced it already.
You can be upset about Arnett leaving, but I don't know how people can be upset about the process. They identified a strong coach and kept the process quiet right up until announcement. Same with the OC. I am confident they have their person and are waiting. From my vantage point, JW oozes professionalism... they got this.
Michigan had 100% buyout for 2 years. We can do it for the 1st year, 50% for the second year. If he can't commit to the 1st year of a contract he's just signing, forget him.A buyout isn’t going to be 650,000. The average buyout for a HC is 25-50% of one year. If a coordinator were to get a buyout it’ll be less than that. If we were paying him $650k per year, a buyout, if there were to be one, would be about $150k. Peanuts for MSU and not a difference maker for us.
I will be surprised if our next DC isn't already on staff.

Regardless, i don't think there's any more P5 DC openings now, anyway.
why assume what was is what will be.. you cant change style mid season that much and we have no idea what a guy taking over full time would want to do.. maybe the discussion with Dino includes changing to 3-3-5 in which case we have no idea how Stanard would do.. i dont think he is the DC running the old style in either case or else we wouldnt have gone out looking for 3-3-5 guys. Dino has about 2 more years of good will and he knows it. changing the DC and the OC tells you he wants it to be better. That would be too bad, because our D hasn't been so great.
Blake Harrell to ECU as their DC.
Still think we should take a look at Corey Hetherman from JMU.
I don’t think he was worse either. Definatly better but also not as good as I wanted but he didn’t have any time as u said. How is he worse than the previous DC? He was thrown into it and did not get a whole off season to design his D.
Assuming Newberry is out of play, which I think is correct, the best candidate would be Joe Heacock out of Iowa State. He has done a great job of using the 3-3-5 to make a bad defense a formidable one. He has ties to Matt Campbell that would be hard to break but if the goal is to implement an aggressive 3-3-5 with a proven coach, he is our best bet.
After him, Charlie Strong.
After him are the names of coaches named before.
John Rudzinski of Air Force, Corey Hetherman of James Madison, Brian Boland of UB, Marcus Freeman of Cincinnati, Clayton Carlin of Sam Houston State, Jeremiah Johnson of Northern Iowa and Mark Powell of Austin Peay.
These guys all coach conventional defenses but are known for being aggressive and innovative.
Carlin has coached at Villanova, UB, Cornell, Bucknell, etc. Sam Houston State gave up the fewest yards/play in all of the FCS division in 2019. They improved a lot after he took over. He has a good deal of experience coaching in the East and presumably might help us recruit there.
Johnson has made Northern Iowa one of the best defenses at the FCS level for years. He is a Kansas guy, Midwest to the core, but I am sure we could get him for some money.
Powell is another guy with ties to the Northeast. He attended Lafayette, and has coached at Yale and Villanova. He is really young (graduated college in 2014). Before taking over at Austin Peay, he was a GA at Mississippi State. Made a major impact at Austin Peay in his one season as their DC. Too young for me to pull the trigger but this kid is going to be a great coach down the road.

Given the cluster this has turned into, I think the faith of the fanbase needs one of the first 2 names. Whether those make the most sense in bigger picture is debatable. Many season ticket renewals may hang in the balance though with the fickleness at hand.Assuming Newberry is out of play, which I think is correct, the best candidate would be Joe Heacock out of Iowa State.
