Preparing for NC State, What Do We Know?

SU may not be a favorite in any of their remaining games.

The word “may” is doing a lot of heavy lifting here.

I don’t see how anyone watching us plus the teams on our schedule can say this with any assurance at all.

Yes, we got rocked by Maryland. BC lost to Kansas. NC State appears to not have a QB and lost to WVU. Pitt almost lost to Delaware yesterday. Wake squeezed by Utah State and have a suspect secondary. Duke might be good?

Every game left on our schedule scares me. I’ll be happy if we can get to a bowl game this year

This was apparent after the 1st half of the Maryland game. We scare the other teams on our schedule too.

Unfortunately this doesn’t seem like the kind of team that knows how to take advantage of a home field. Gonna be hard to cheer for these guys knowing points will be hard to come by. We knew dungeys guys could put up points and EDs toughness made them easy to rally behind. This year’s group is like trying to start a car that won’t turn over.
FFS.

Why are you even here?

Miserable.

Coming off the bye, I think we will be ok, we have extra days to prepare and heal up.

NC State will be tough at home but they are no where near as dangerous as years past.

Losing Finley for them has been comparable to us losing ED
I would replace ED with our OLINE in the last sentence. You give TD last years line and watch how different we would be.

Where do you get this from?

Things I’ve seen, their d line could be a problem. The rest of their D doesn’t seem like anything special.

Their pass attack is nothing prolific, they lost a lot with Finley and Harmon.

They have a respectable running game and OK special teams.

They are Rutgers South fan/program wise imo.

What else do we know? This is going to be a long bye week.

NC State isn't good. People on this board are too cautious about this game. Some are calling it a toss up. This isn't a toss up. Western Michigan would run them off of the field. Syracuse should be the favorite in Raleigh.

From what I've seen of SU to date, I find this post somewhat peculiar. Obviously, my lens is significantly different than the one you're looking through at this stage. There's absolutely no doubt that SU will be a dog on the road for this Thursday night prime time game in Raleigh. That's about the only given here.

Their DL being a problem is what’s scary, because our OL has been horrific. That matchup is the key to the whole game IMO. Hopefully our guys can improve and come out and hold their own. If that happens we should have a good chance.

Their pass rush and rush defense are strengths.

No bueno.

We need Moe and Adams to create a run game or I see Tommy struggling in a non maintained pocket all game in a road setting.

Syracuse QB > NC State QB
Syracuse RBs > NC State RBs
Syracuse OL < NC State DL
Syracuse DL > NC State OL

They are pretty limited on O. Losing their OC and Findley has been an issue. We need Cisco back. Heckel back would be very helpful.

but I think TD and our WRs are the difference here.

They are us without a QB, RB and a better OL.

Our WR’s havent proven to be a strength vs much weaker secondaries than NC State’s.

I think our whole offense depends on forcing the linebackers to respect the run.

Yup. I’m wondering if this is one of those 2012 at Rutgers eyesore type of games. 19-16 final or something. Hopefully we win it.

I see this game being a lot like Dungey vs Florida State in 2017. We face a down program that benefits off a fractured Syracuse offense relying on the QB to make plays. There’s no Akers on NC State fortunately but they’ve got skill depth.

What's peculiar about it? I've watched both teams play. Syracuse has its problems, but NC State isn't this team that should be putting fear in the board. Does this board watch other teams outside of Syracuse? This is an honest question because I see these posts way too often especially on the basketball side.

Not sure why you care how other people do things. If you’re intimating that the Gerg teams were just as fun and easy to cheer for then I guess you are a better fan and I salute you.

If the HC DLine could give us problems, I have no reason to believe every team we have left to play could potentially do the same.

Didn't say NC State wouldn't give us problems. Just that some adjustments could help us win. Also if you watched the FSU game, the high sack count had a lot to do with the FSU OL whiffing on cut blocks a ton. Again doesn't mean we are going to keep them out of the backfield all night, I expect we will be dealing with this issue all season. That said, some more two TE sets using Hackett and Benson more in the passing game depending on the defense along with hopefully some adjustments on the OL after getting a look at talent like Bergeron and I think we can beat NC State.

ESPN predictor now projects us at 4-8. Only wildcard would be personnel adjustments or better health on both lines.

Eh, i see why the way you worded it caused you to catch some crap but I think I see what you were getting at.

Ultimately the team has to take advantage of the fact that the crowd WANTS to explode and give them something. The crowd was loud for Clemson but if we just could’ve scored ONE touchdown when the game was still manageable, the atmosphere would’ve really become something else. Punch it in after both turnovers, and who knows? Would’ve been a pure madhouse in there though.

Fans will be there wanting to cheer. Team has to do something to allow it to happen though.

That’s exactly what I’m getting at. Some haters gonna hate.

Bad memories. I see Torry Holt coming back in an 81 jersey and doing it to us again.
Haha, and Kevin Abrams has graduated! Fortunately, Harmon and Finley are gone. Always tough to win on the road in the ACC, but we can beat this team. The question will be, will we beat ourselves with poor blocking, avoidable TO's and silly defensive mistakes? Play smart and we can get out of there with a W.

You have to continue to question SU’s recruiting. This is Dino’s fourth year and we still can’t field a competent offensive line.
