I don't know that it skewed it. It's not like we had 5 starters out on D for that game. It was a stinker and it counts in the stat book.
I agree...stinker is kind. It might be wishful thinking, but I don't think we're as bad as we showed. That's what I meant by skewed. But the numbers are what they are.
It was late and a lost cause by that point but Leary looked more competent than the other two by a decent margin in his cameo...
Or the Pitt game last year. No, that only happens to the basketball team! LOL
They're going with the higher risk/higher reward choice in Leary. I don't think they have a choice. If you're Doeren you take that chance that your DL will control the game, and you use the bye week to start moving your offense forward.
We’re a long way from being that confident about our defense stopping an ACC team cold, much less scoring at all vs an ACC défense.it’s possible our DL and secondary will really enjoy this scenario

Our defense has been a good tonic for opponents running attacks, unfortunately.I hope so. That's Doeren's big risk to calculate, we force turnovers. But I bet that fanbase will be ready with the boourns chants if one of the other two QBs plays.
They need to get their running game going against us. Hasn't been so good thus far. Looks like they're working in two true freshmen in the 3 man rotation.

Talk to me when we win the OL battle.I didn't say stop them cold. I think I'd take our two senior ends and our secondary over a true freshman QB who has thrown 5 passes. And likewise, Tommy has shown that he's the real deal... I like our chances when we win the QB battle.
Let's hope they dont make that decision until next Thursday. I want to see 3 NCSt QBs getting reps all week. Gonna need to see QB miscues on their part to give us a chance. Don't see our OL holding up under the bright lights and crowd noise. Can see us in a 12-7 kind of game either way. They're going with the higher risk/higher reward choice in Leary. But that's how running stats are for football games. The fact that we give up so many long runs is a problem. Is it ok to hold a team to 2 yards on 1st and 2nd down and give up 75 on 3rd down? Limiting big plays should also be a goal of a defense. Here's a game note, HC in the second half
had negative 14 yds until their last drive for 40. Every drive until their last was three or four out. Pretty good for hopeless overmatched coordinators that make no adjustments.syracusefan.com
70% of the yards given up against UMd. Clemson and WMU were on 15% of the carries, the problem has been a handful of long runs. Reduce those and they will be fine against the run. Get Black back with improving LBs and they will be better. Start playing with leads and converting more third downs on offense and they will be better. This is never going to be a lock down defense the approach is to be an excellent situational defense.
Man this stretch of 19 days between legitimate opponents is just a grind. I am dying for next Thursday.
Agreed but I think the point is that this is more of a fixable problem. I think a smaller portion of the problem plays were about about us getting manhandled physically. A bigger part of the problem has been players knowing their assignment and that is more easily fixed. I'm optimistic that the failure in the run game defense doesn't continue. I have more faith that will be fixed than the OL struggles I would say.But that's how running stats are for football games. The fact that we give up so many long runs is a problem. Don't see this offense scoring 30+ against any ACC team right now. The running game isn't good enough to take pressure off Tommy and the passing game. The small receivers need to take a seat on the bench. They don't block, and can't get separation on passing plays.Agreed but I think the point is that this is more of a fixable problem.
