Preseason Camp Thread

Queely can be more productive than he has been in previous years because this will be a better passing offense but I think we know what his ceiling is. I like Alford and Gadsden a lot and would like to have them playing more but for some reason I think they are better suited for a different offense / QB combination as I don't see us going down field all that much. I'm thinking Hatcher and Donovan Brown could be more productive in the passing game and would like them to get more time over Queely. And they obviously have a lot of room to improve.
IMO Courtney Jackson will be the most productive receiver. Combination of his experience, production last year, the system, and QB he is playing with. I see no reason (well I do, but..) he should not grab 50 balls. Think touchdowns will only be in the 4-6 range because he's not a downfield guy and we don't have that type of downfield thrower, but he needs to be the guy that dominates the 10-15 yard range.

Depends what you mean about a "good" passing attack. We know Queely is a good blocker and that matters. I think he could be solid in the intermediate routes but not spectacular. I honestly don't see us throwing down field all that much. I mean you need to do it periodically to keep them somewhat honest but I don't see us hitting on those but rarely. Shrader just doesn't seem to have very good accuracy on deep balls. I think Anaes offense will be more passing but mostly short stuff. But at least it will be better schemed to get those routes open. But I too wish someone would beat Queely out as that just means we have somebody more talented. I think Jones end up starting but not sure if it is in place of Queely or in addition to. I'm kind of hoping it is in place of though.
I think you are totally wrong about GS passing capabilities. He will prove you and many others incorrect about their analysis of his passing skills. Don't worry, I won't be the first to say "I told you so". Many others will beat me to it.

I mean... it does not specify D1 or P5. Just saying "worst college football team"... Syracuse is factually not. Outrageous. St John Fisher going to beat SU? How about Brockport? Lol.
army? I mean come on man

Looks like we'll have 4 game ready corners this season. And there ain't nothing wrong with that...
Jeremiah Wilson is going to be our next “star” Db. He’s a little on the smaller side compared to Melfi, Trill, Williams, but he’s solid and from everything I heard and now being mentioned often as a playmaker it only backs up all the good things that were said about the kid. If he had to fill in at some point for Duce or Williams I would be extremely confident in his abilities. Great recruiting steal.

D1 showing MAC teams. Must mean projected record because SU is not worse than Army or UB head to head.

We would beat down on both. I know if’s don’t count, but if we had 1 or even 2 of those games during that 3 game mid-season stretch where we lost all 3 by 3 points because boneheaded game mgt our perception going into this season would be much different.

Even the ACC roadshow predicted Syracuse as the #3 defense in the conference. Now throw in Tucker, an experienced OL, and even Shredder who ran for 1,000+ yards and perception is totally different if we had 7 wins last season

That's the reason that the FSU outcome hit me so hard. We HAD them.

Get that one additional win, and as you point out -- the entire offseason outlook is different for a significant portion of the fanbase. Need to get to a bowl this year.

Then where are these complaints coming from?
Mostly board members, but one player, Mikel Jones, said we could do with more nutrition help.

I really like GS overall. He has a lot of positives. I think he will look like a better passer this year because the offensive passing game concepts will be much improved. But I still think he will be a below average deep passer.

Or small and easily blocked
We were really good in total defense which is basically total yds against. We were great in both rushing yds against and rushing yds/carry against last year and even our passing yards against were good. We were in the teens and 20's in those categories and it wasn't just because we ran the clock out as the yds/rush and yds/attempt were good also. But somehow our scoring defense was only ranked 66th. I'm sure this surely has to somewhat do with field position due to our offensive efficiency and special teams. I think all of those yards based stats go down a bit and we will give up more big plays this year because of our size. But hopefully our speed and athleticism leads to more big plays for the defense as well. We will get more fumbles caused knifing into the backfield and rushing the passer we hopefully get more strip sacks, tipped passes for picks and hurrying the QB for picks. It will be impossible not to improve on those number. It was bewildering to me how we went from a defense that was good at creating turnovers to being tied with one other team for dead last in 2021 in the FBS in turnovers created. We created just 6 total turnovers on the season which is almost impossible. Actually no team had 7 turnovers created. All the rest had 8 or more. Good ol' Scott Shafer with Middle Tenn lead the way with 32 turnovers created.

Lots of good nuggets in there. I wish the mic used to record the audio was closer to Stephen. He asked most of the best questions, but it was hard to make out what he was saying sometimes.

Jeremiah Wilson, Oronde Gadsden got some praise.

Dakota has had some run at center.

Coach playing it very close to the vest discussing the two deep. As expected.

Where can I get one of those hats?
