By the fans. Really awful. Hardly anyone there. I am from a small town near Watertown, NY. I lived in Syracuse for 4 years and just moved back to Upstate NY. It was cold and snowing on Saturday... I know that there is really not that much to do.
I know that the majority of people on this board were there at the game, or would have been if not for events with children, distance, work, etc, so this post I guess is not directed at most of you guys.
I am sick and tired of hearing how this team is somehow not worthy of watching on Saturdays. Is the offense bad? Yes. Are we inconsistent on defense? Yes. Is the play calling questionable? Absolutely. You go to the games because you are a fan of the team, and at some point must have cared about the school or the players on the team. Most people do not use the level of discernment when they go to the movies. Guess what- you could probably take your family to a Syracuse football game for less than going to the movies. I am also sick of people turning around and yelling at the press box, totally classless. How would you like the Orange coaching staff to come to your job tomorrow and point out all of the stupid mistakes you make. They need to be held accountable, but during the game is not the time. Unfortunately our media does not do a good job of this because they don't know anything about football.
If you have the ability to get to the dome this weekend and cheer on these kids who have worked their tails off this year and have stayed out of trouble, please do. They deserve better support than they have gotten this year. I'm sorry, but I really don't think amateur athletes need to "earn" your support if you actually are a fan. How do you think it would make them feel to see a (partially) full dome on Saturday? I know that its not realistic, but I have to think it would mean a lot to them.
Reasons for not going to the Dome and possible solutions:
1. It's too cold inside (have we sunk to this, we're out of the wind/rain/snow, come on man)- wear some layers
2. I'm on Thanksgiving break- go back to school early. I always had fun going back a little bit early. Maybe you'll meet that special someone waiting in line for the bathroom at Chuck's after some $5 pitchers. If going out is not your thing, you can get a head start studying for finals
3. Too expensive- Not anymore, you can go to games for very little. Eat a good breakfast and lunch and you won't need any concessions. You can park at Madison Irving garage for $3 and walk up the hill. You won't need a gym membership anymore
4. The team sucks- Worst excuse. Go with some friends or family. Have some fun, tail gait. I guarantee it is possible to have fun at the game
5. My significant other doesn't like football- My wife hates football and we have been to every game this year. She even admitted when we were driving to the game that she has had fun at them.
6. I have to go Christmas shopping- It's a 4-6 hour process, plenty of shopping days
Get out to the Dome, support these kids. They've worked their a$$es off this year. They seem like a good group of kids and have some great back stories. 1 game and we can go bowling. If you think the team sucks, go to the games to create an environment that recruits want to be a part of. No good excuses this weekend to not be there.
Sorry for the length
