Projected Depth Chart (Post-Standard)

Hey Sutomcat -- looks like Reed is making a push.

Also interesting to see Price ascending -- haven't heard much about him this camp.

Also, some surprise projections on D [to me, anyway].
Dino talked about Price early on.

Kalen Ellis---2nd string???

There's been a few posters who have mentioned he's still way too heavy and is getting injury prone. More, Bradford, Bleich, and probably Illoa can all play OG.

Reed is a different kind of athlete than a lot of our other guys. He and Enrique have the size, strength and athletic ability that makes them hard to keep off the field. That is why I thought he would win this spot. He apparently has a hand injury that doesn't help but good for him pushing through it.

It should be mentioned that the staff apparently had Bleich working at center as well recently. That tells me they aren't thrilled with the centers (and might like some of the guards more).

We saw More at OG and Wohlabaugh at OT in some of the videos. Her including them there is not a big surprise.

A lot of that is surely driven by Ellis being banged up. The staff may be trying to shepherd him through preseason and keep him as healthy as possible. Would not be surprised if Kalan is the man for Colgate.

But when you have others playing your spot for extended periods, you run the risk of them looking good and getting Wally Pipped.

Interesting that More is playing some at OG. Bradford has played some at OG and looked serviceable. Ilaoa or Hoeh have more time with the program as well. It should be noted that Ilaoa was working at OG yesterday. I like that the staff appears to be doing a good job thoroughly reviewing all their options to get the best 5 on the field.

I think Emily rightly points out her list is a best guess. That is all that can be done now. A lot depends on how the players finish preseason. Some depends on the needs of the team. More might be a better OT than an OG for example, but he might be our second best OG and our third best OT.

Hoping someone steps up and challenges Pena for that wr3 spot. Love Pena but imo theres some better options at that position. He’s by far our best return guy though.

I thought a couple of position groups on the second string was interesting. She had the transfer lb on the second string. Have not heard his name mentioned at all through camp in the limited coverage. Also Brown over Kendal Long. Seemed like Long was having a good camp. OL who knows at this point. Still think someone other than Wilson will be the starting cb. Also do not see greenwood in the two deep with all the additions at S.
Little over two weeks until we all know. Let’s Go Orange.

Her linebackers seem messed up. I get that she ignored Thompson, which she explained. That is okay I guess.

Thought Sparrow was better than McDonald and Lowery last season. But McDonald was playing hurt most of the year. And I think Lowery added some much needed weight so maybe this is correct.

Listing Mason and Gilmore ahead of Bailey and Roon seems unlikely. Bailey played well in the bowl game and is a player. I expect he will get a lot of playing time this season. Roon was clearly ahead of Mason last season and I would be surprised if Gilmore has passed him. Maybe Gilmore is a lot better than we thought initially? It would be nice to see some footage of these guys.

Surprised to see Delaine in front of Peterson. But he is apparently banged up some so that might have influenced Emily here.

He should take a redshirt and take the next 12 months to reshape his body. He was thrown in as a true frost and did okay. But him getting pt at his weight probably didn’t add motivation to drop some lbs

He has no future at the next level shaped. Like a sumo

imo the LB’s and WR’s are very speculatively listed.

I believe Pena and Marcus Adams are the only scholarship WRs working out at the slot. But I think OG is also lining up there a lot but there might not be a ton of opportunity there right now.

Adams is also reportedly working outside.

Roon got a season ending injury before the Clemson game. Has he been a full go participant? Don't remember reading about him. Maybe that factors in? But based on last years PT and production you would think Mason would be behind the others.

Until I see someone step up more in game action, I'm still bearish on our WRs, outside of OG and LQA, both of which aren't technically WRs (but I don't care about traditional position names).

If he can even do it, some body types just really struggle with that.

If we were Wisconsin, he'd be fine. Or even if we still had Tucker and that was more of our game.

I think we'd all guess that Beck, with Allen as his feature back, will be more wide open, and we're going to want linemen who are more mobile. Ellis, at that weight, is not.

Reed in the pictures I have seen has great bend and reach. That’s what Bergeron had. It’s what sets guys apart physically at the position. Ellis moves remarkably well for his size, great feet, but that is an enormous amount of repetitive stress on feet, ankles, knees, and hips at that size.

Get less peary big fellla. I think that’s what Chris B has done.

Could be. He was one of the many linebackers who did not play in the spring game. I don't remember seeing him in any of the practice videos but I haven't been looking for him specifically.

Will try and see if I can spot him the rest of preseason camp.

Does anyone know if he is a full go yet? Is Thompson the only LB not 100% ready right now?

Pretty sure Dino stated in his presser after day 1 of camp, that Roon was one of 3 guys, including Thompson and and Walk on (forgot which one), that would be in a green jersey.

Reed’s natural talent is different from most guys on this Oline. He will be a starter by ACC play if not sooner.
I am really excited about the defensive line. Caleb is a leader and super talented. He got into a scuffle with Cruz. Wouldn’t be shocked if that was deliberate by Caleb. Fire Cruz up. There are three legitimate players are EACH spot in the line. Jaquez Jr and Jobity are going to be trouble in their second year. Josh Crawford is a huge fan of Chase Siommon. Legit depth.

That sounds familiar. I thought Villari might have been in green for a couple of days at the start of preseason camp too but maybe I am imagining that. Good to see him out there running around.

He could end up making a significant impact if he can stay healthy and show he can block a bit.

LB is a crap shoot to guess depth in behind Wax. So many super talented guys in that room it’s remarkable. DL is pretty straight forward and I agree with that. WR is more right then not. OL is tough. Not sure if Kentucky transfer will start? Is that what we are hearing elsewhere as well? A lot of options in that room, a rarity for us. I am super excited to see what the young guns in the DB room provide. So much potential but unproven. Seeing that crazy Greg Delaine interception video was promising that we may have some ballers in that room we just don’t know about yet. Overall this team has so much depth it’s so refreshing. We have legit P5 depth for first time in who knows when.

If Delaine can emerge as a viable CB candidate option that would be great news as we have literally heard nothing about him since He got here. He did have 75 tackles and 5 pics his senior year of HS. At 180 lbs it would be good if he could put on another 10 lbs to put him at around the same weight Garrett Williams was at. He was at only 172 lbs last year so at least he is moving in the right direction.
