Purdue writer: "Never been in louder venue in my life."

Watched the Black and Gold post game show, the writer for Purdue said he'd never been in a LOUDER venue in his life. Said it was like the game was played inside a drum. And then he shook his head saying that it wasn't even packed, not even close, but said it felt like there were 100,000 people. Said it's a great atmosphere, and when 'Cuse gets mojo, it seems like the roof is going to lift on the place. Finished with, you can see why the Dome is a difficult place for visitors to win.

Putting this in perspective, this is a guy who writes for a Big10 team with multiple stadiums at 100K+.

The Dome is a huge advantage. And our small but loud fan base should be proud.

Let's Go Orange!!!
On TV it sounds so dang quiet. The production quality should be robust enough such that we should be able to feel the atmosphere while still hearing and comprehending the announcing crew. Espn been doing this for what ? 40 years ? They can’t figure it out ?

Aye, TV never does it justice .

When fans buy a ticket online, make them sign an agreement that they won't sue for any damage caused by any excessive noise in the Dome.

Legally it would be pretty much BS, but it would create great PR, and be a great recruiting tool.

"It's true son, we make the fans sign a waiver like that. Come and be a part of that. Sign your Letter of Intent right here!"
Yepp. An asterick *Excessive volume can cause hearing damage.

Provide those cheap ear plugs, with the disclaimer when you enter the dome. (Most won't take them) The announcers can say, "It's so loud in here, they'll give you ear plugs if you need them."

Get some readings in the 120's and make it a thing. Get some in the 130's? Challenge ALL stadiums to be louder. (Create national hype.)

I bought some decent earplugs to wear. I've been to my fair share of concerts, club etc. The Dome is loud as hell. Fans would be wise to have earplugs. Kids should be wearing those headphones too.

Yup. Any waiver when it comes to entertainment creates demand. Artificial or not.

Lol. Could be marketing brilliance actually
They could have a dB meter on the scoreboard to challenge the fans to be louder. Don't show it when it's quiet or the upcoming play isn't important, but turn it on when the tension grows to further amp the fans up.

That would be a cool thing for the broadcast networks to flash or even show in the corner of the screen before the snap or after a big play.

All this really pts to where in the dome is it loudest now.. It would be great down on the field but it may well be someplace in the stands who knows.. you need multiple pts of reference and a decent crowd to test it out. if nothing else you would think with all the references to how loud it is you would get an ESPN crew to bring a meter in.. You see it at other venues being done.
In every room, its usually loudest against a wall. An increase of 4db, as the bass frequencies gather. Don't measure there. That's cheating.

If a bunch of folks bring a cheap dedicated SPL meter, we can start getting an idea where its loudest. Really hoping NC State is a packed, LOUD, night game.

Saw this one and the Cowboys have a decibel meter on one of their scoreboards

Love these ideas.

I do believe part of the reason cuse doesn’t do the decibel thing is because it catches a lot teams off guard.

Almost every team comes in and goes “I didn’t expect it to be THAT loud.”

If you don’t have a reading there’s no way to give an accurate description which also means teams don’t know the level they need to prepare for

Just my conspiracy theory lol

Yepp. Musician earplugs still let the high end in, so you can hear what's going on. As a musician with old guitar amps that only sound right cranked to 11? They are a must, in that environment. Dome noise is brief, and much safer than what any older musician has put themselves through.

If you already have tinitus? Good idea to bring some to the dome. My meter, and earplugs are always in my clear dome bag. It truly is a safety thing for anyone that already has some hearing damage. No reason whatsoever these safety devices shouldnt be allowed in the dome.

Here is SU vs. Texas, (not 1993 but 1992). I'm not sure which specific play you are referring to:

Is this the one with the Marvin Graves reception where we broke the dome? If so, I assume that point.

CHALLENGE the fans. When they are the 6th? Loudest ever recorded? Let them KNOW. (I measured this in 2019- on team intro-game was a stinker. We are WAY louder)

I don't have any hearing problems yet so I'm just being proactive. I brought them to Elton John concert and was thankful I did.

and I thought it was much louder for UL for much longer periods of the game.. I think it also matters where you sit.. Surprised someone isnt doing some measureing studies , even getting some engineering dept to do it, dont they have any at SU? put some meters in 5-6 areas and see what is really happening in there. Shoot we have enough people here to do it. high/low endzone sidelines.. of course would they let us bring them in is a question..
In 327 it was definitely louder than the UL game. Especially on the pick 6.
I think you are right that seating location might play a role. It felt like there were a lot more people in our section Saturday.

I think that's on the network. You can switch between games on saturdays and hear the difference between one network and another.

I thought there were more people in the Dome for Purdue . The announced attendance was lower. Maybe with the hype there were a lot less no shows for Purdue .

BTW. The loudest indoor stadium EVER recorded was 126db, by the Sacremento Kings. If we don't hit #1 on the football list, we may be able to call ourselves the LOUDEST indoor stadium in the WORLD. That's a Guiness book of World records number.

I hope we can make this happen. With the right game, we can do it.
