I know this may sound like I’m attacking Rex Culpepper. But I’m just being honest, he may have the weakest arm I have ever seen in the P5, let alone D1. It seems like he has to put his whole body into just a 5 yard throw. I think he actually reads the game and takes what the defense gives him better then Devito, but he just does not have good enough arm talent to play the position.

With that said, I don’t believe he should play another down of QB for Syracuse. It sounds harsh but it is a lost cause. He is just a place holder. We need to see what we have in the wings. We also need to see what those players can learn from their hiccups.

Rex is an amazing story and I wish him nothing but the best. He is already a winner at life, and he has already battled more then most of us will ever know. So I am happy for him, but the longer he plays QB, the more it hurts our QB growth.

It has to be Morgan going forward there is no point to play Rex anymore. I don't care how ready the coaching staff thinks he is its time to get him some reps.

There was a reason he was moved to TE. He is in the position he is in due to the recruiting failures and one knucklehead that couldnt keep it together on campus.

Let the BC game be an open tryout, but I'm hoping we can get Tommy back after the bye week.

Dino gave us all the info we needed a few weeks ago about how he is going to coach a team. He was talking about his time at Baylor and how he wanted to start the experience senior transfer QB instead of RBGIII. Lucky for Baylor he wasn't a head coach. That says all we need to know about how he feels about the QB position. There is no way TD is not going to be the starting QB at Syracuse until he graduates or leaves. I hope somehow he can see past his own failures and look toward the future during this total disaster of a season. I don't understand why he has no issues playing freshman at all other positions but not QB especially when he has been given the opportunity to give game experience to the QBs of the future.

Takes what is given better ? Lol and btw Rex has a stringer arm than Jacobian that’s a fact
Jacobian is a touch type thrower
Dillon who I don’t know much about has a pretty good arm

Rex has a really strong arm he’s just not accurate. He’s just as likely to float a pass 10 feet over a guy’s head as he is to throw it into the dirt. And his motion is not consistent he’ll throw overhand and the next time he throws side arm and off his back foot. His mechanics are a mess.

Dino can run the team his way, but I'll be disapointed if its not Jacobian and Dillion the rest of the way

I think we need to pump the brakes on benching Rex in favor of a freshman QB. Both of the freshman have only been apart of the program for 3 months. So rarely does a true freshman QB come in and is ready to run a D1 offense.

However, I do think that Rex, JaCobian and Dillon should each play in each remaining game this season. More than anything, it provides experience for each and gives this staff a base of film and results that they can use this offseason as a launching pad to next spring.

It’s interesting, assuming Tommy comes back, could there be a QB room next spring that consists of -

Tommy
Rex
Transfer QB
Dillon
JaCobian
Lamson
Walk-Ons/Summers

I’m sure this will shake out differently but that’s the deepest QB room I can recall in a long long time. What if 5 of those players (including the transfer QB) all had significant D1 experience? That would be awesome.

Wow. I’ll have to rewatch the tape on that one. I see Rex struggling to get zip on his out throws. Thought I saw plenty of zip on Morgan’s throws except the one where he had to go across his body. Will be keeping my eye on that.

I didn’t see a lot of zip yesterday but there’s been many times he throws the ball so hard guys can’t catch it. Maybe he’s got a shoulder issue going on.

I don’t need to see Jacobian start but a couple of scripted series early on would be welcome.

Why do you think Rex comes back?

Why do you think a transfer is coming?

I thought I heard reference that the staff wants Rex back next year. Perhaps feelings are mutual and he sees that as an opportunity to get a free masters degree.

There are currently a significant number of QBs in the transfer portal and while 95% of them won’t be a fit here I do think it is worth it if you can find the right player. What do you have to lose?

Bottom line - 6 of last 7 seasons we have had a different QB start game 1 and game 12 of that season. We need to prepare better for this scenario.

Also, please tell this staff to make the QB “flak jackets” mandatory for every QB? JaCobian looked like a punter out there yesterday and if he takes a shot to the rib cage he’s going to wish he was wearing one.

Sometimes he doesn’t have zip with his poor mechanics but Jacobian arm is that strong
But he can be good

How anyone could not want Morgan to start on Saturday is beyond me. I have no ill will towards Rex but we are 1-6 and it's time to look to the future

It’s not just that he’d start a game, it’s that he would get all of the practice reps.

I mean, if Dino really thinks it’s going to crush the kid’s confidence then he has to weigh that. But you just pull him aside and say look you’re a freshman with no pressure and aren’t losing a year of eligibility. So go have fun.

Best case, one of these two freshmen will be the backup next year and will need to be ready.

Worst case, one of them has to be next year’s starter.

Continuing to play a 5th year senior, to have more of the playbook available (in a losing season) when he’s making mistake after mistake anyway, seems like a foolish idea.

JaCobian had plenty on the passes he threw especially the TD to Benson - looked like Nassib. I don't know what else he has or any of the other QBs but a year under Tommy will be great for him. Rex is who he is and that won't change.

Why get a future qb reps in a season that is all but lost, when we have no built in experience at the position and the AD’s already guaranteed dino’s employment through 2021? That’d involve developing

The throw to benson was a soft Toss

It’s about developing the entire offense
I don’t think they trust the young buck to throw down field it’s way different
This would stunt wr development.
Alford got in yesterday
Tommy has a shot to come back for NC state
The coaches live this stuff and see what nobody else can’t . That said I’d roll the dice with Jacobian and see what happens

Rex was 15-27 yesterday with 1 TD / 2 INTs

He's 52-112 on the season, 6 TD / 7 INTs

Isn't that stunting WR development?

It gets them much needed tackling reps. You know, for when we on down to using WR’s as CB’s by the end of the year

Had no idea Tommy was on track to potentially return that early. All this said I’d take tommy as soon as he’s back. I think it’s VITAL to get Jacobian snaps in the meantime though. Trial by fire may help when this seasons fairly inconsequential at this point. Rex isn’t the future.
