Class of 2023 QB LaNorris Sellers (SC) Flipped to South Carolina

Long chain here, and perhaps it has been covered, but would be interesting to know/understand the ripple effects if LaNorris has struck with his commitment to SU.

Could we surmise that Dino keeps his job another year, Fran is not hired, McCord does not come? Sure. That is easy. But there are other paths, namely that Dino is done anyhow, Fran convinces LaNorris to stick around and chooses 2 seasons of LS to one with McCord. And I am not even saying that is better.

No right or wrong answers, just an incredible inflection point for the Syracuse program. And the realization that so much positive came after a negative flip. It's crazy to think about.

I'll play along.

If LaNorris had stuck with his commitment, Dino probably wouldn't have gotten fired after qualifying for a bowl in 2023, because ADJW wouldn't want to risk losing Sellars. Beck also stays, grooming his star pupil. Fan optimism would have been high for 2024, with Sellars in the fold.

Obviously, no Fran Brown. No McCord. None of the other big time transfers come here. So the offensive juggernaut we enjoyed last year doesn't happen.

That said, Norris is probably the closest thing to McNabb we would have had SINCE McNabb -- so he'd no doubt be a force in the ACC. We probably don't win 10 games, but he'd be good enough for us to win maybe 8. Some of those games shift around -- for example, maybe we don't beat a Miami or a Cal on the road, but we probably take out Stanford / BC, with LaNorris able to move the ball on the ground. Option would have been lethal with Sellars / Allen.

LaNorris would be poised for an even bigger sophomore campaign, and we might have seen a decent uptick on the recruiting trail with him generating excitement and Syracuse having some "buzz."

But on the other hand, the OL would still probably be subpar, meaning that Sellars might be subjected to injuries [a la Shrader], having to do too much. And depth wouldn't be as good as it was under Brown.

Maybe Sellars would be good enough to lift us back to the promised land, kind of like what Dungey was able to do under Dino. Maybe not.

But I think things worked out for the best. Happy we have Fran Brown, and excited to see where he takes this program.

Reminds me of how much the program trajectory changed based on Vick's decision. Had Vick come here the train probably would have kept rolling, instead we had two decades plus of futility coming our way. Could his decision be what swings the pendulum back? By LS not coming here we get Fran, McCord, and a lights out staff that builds us into a Northeast power?
SU would have won the NC that year: we would have had the best offensive and defensive (Freeney) players in the country.

They weren’t beating FSU that year and wouldn’t have won the title.

This makes sense to me. One wildcard, though. Our receivers became dramatically better after Fran came to town. The attitude and fight for the ball improved for almost all receivers. Between that and the number of drops we saw under HCDB … it’s enough to really dampen expectations for any QB

LaNorris did us a favor in the long run. If he came here, we probably have a few more wins, and Dino doesn’t see the hot seat as quickly. But no way he doesn’t hit the portal and leave once he realizes we have zero OL’s to protect him and no WR’s to throw to. We were not the same squad as we are now. Ultimately, it worked out better for both parties. We got Fran and McCord, and he had the opportunity to turn down $8M.

Also the fact that Nixon’s offensive system seems to be significantly better than the one ran by Dino in regards to play design and receiver routes.

Not a disagreement about nixon but I thought Anae called a pretty good game in first half of 2022. Went 6-0 and beat a few good teams. Obviously things fell apart and that was not sustainable nor was he a good fit. Looking back, what a medicore group of WRs aside from Gadsen.

How much did he get from SC? He's not playing for nothing.
His NIL value on ON3 is $3.7 million but who really knows what he is getting, I would assume it is higher this year.
