Collins was named starter based on who was here. Fran, after spring practice, also said he wants to bring in another QB. Did he say he wants to bring in a backup?

If you can get Angeli you do.

Are other portal additions not coming to compete with guys who may have locked up starting spots or is everyone off limits? Gimme a break. If you want to make the playoffs you try to improve your team.

That’s not my argument, my argument is if you were going to look for for better in the spring why name him QB1 and say you’re “handing him the keys” there is zero upside and makes zero sense unless you are in fact all in on Rickie Collins.

Again, nah. There is plenty of upside for the time being in naming Collins. If Collins loses the QB1 position to someone new, that’s on him. Team composition will continually change, no one’s position is guaranteed, all players know that.

It would be interesting to know how much Nil investment was made with Collins. That could be indicative of if we would make a play on Angelli.

QB is the most important position in sports with goalie a close second. I really like this kid. Hope he ends up here.

I don't think you can say he's "played at a high level on a big stage". He's played spot minutes and started one game (a bowl game that meant nothing).

Tommy Devito did similar here, enough to make us think he would be really good, and then stunk it up the next season.

How to lose a locker room 101: Name a kid a starter at the biggest position in the game, publicly support him, say you’re going to give him the keys, and then weeks later say “sorry but actually we’re going somewhere else” I can’t imagine they view Angeli as that big of an upgrade over Collins they’d do that.

I just don’t believe this kid would be such a substantial upgrade over Rickie that it would make FB reverse course on naming Rickie QB1. Maybe that’s where the disconnect in this argument is, because I do agree if a bonafide can’t miss guy came along then sure go back on it, but I don’t believe Angeli is that.

That was quite literally my point the entire time, that I didn’t think Angeli would be such a substantial upgrade it would cause FB to walk back his public naming Rickie QB1 and saying he’s the guy.

Fran said he wants to win now, period. If a better player at a position comes along Fran will play him. Again if team composition changes and someone is playing better, that player will play. A starter in April is not the same as a starter in September.
