How to lose a locker room 101: Name a kid a starter at the biggest position in the game, publicly support him, say you’re going to give him the keys, and then weeks later say “sorry but actually we’re going somewhere else” I can’t imagine they view Angeli as that big of an upgrade over Collins they’d do that.
He would not be bringing in Angeli and naming him starter right away. There would obviously be a competition in August. Collins may even win. Every other player is competing for their spot, I am sure they don’t think the QB should be exempt from that.

And if that’s the case it will be a good lesson to Fran Brown to not name a kid a starter in April when the potential to add is there. If he didn’t like Rickie and was going to see what was going to be available in the spring portal he shouldn’t have named him the starter. The plus to naming him QB1 so early was to rally the team around him, say we have our guy let’s put this thing together. He is not going back on that. Collins is QB1.

No, I’m all for playing the best players. What I’m not for is the head coach naming a kid the starter and saying this is our guy, and then going back on it when he’s shown every step of the way since he’s been on campus his word is his word. I have zero issues with bringing someone in I just can’t see Fran Brown not starting Rickie Collins after that, it sends an awful message. If Fran wanted to continue the competition and add another QB to it he shouldn’t have named Rickie Collins QB1. He didn’t name him QB1 of april, or QB1 of the spring, he said this is our quarterback he has the keys.
Nope if we bring in a lb...they will be starting over mcdonald or sparrow or both if we land two ...and those guys are named the starter.no different

He named him QB1 of the current team. What if Collins has a lousy August and Williams or QB transfer excels. It is always subject to change. Everyone (well almost) knows that.
This is all under the assumption Angeli would out play Rickie pillar to post, I have to believe if Angeli was that much better he would’ve been playing. Which leads me to believe Rickie and Angeli are comparable, in which case, why would Fran Brown go back on his public declaration of Rickie Collins being the guy?

He was QB1 yes, then after that year they couldn’t guarantee him the job so he transferred to Syracuse. This would be like if they said yeah you’re the guy then in the spring brought in Will Howard. Horrible look. And also, that’s Ohio State they’re at the stop of the food chain. We’re talking about NDs 3rd string quarterback.
That’s not my argument, my argument is if you were going to look for for better in the spring why name him QB1 and say you’re “handing him the keys” there is zero upside and makes zero sense unless you are in fact all in on Rickie Collins.
Fran's job is to win football games. Collins was named QB1 in the spring. This time of year is about talent acquisition at all spots. The roster changes. The summer starts new battles at all positions. Collins has the leg up, but Fran's job is to bring in the best players at every position, and let the best man win.
We're talking about ND's QB2 last season, that has played well when called upon.

I don't agree. Collins won the spring competition. If we bring in another QB, that position should be a competition again. If we bring in another LB, will McDonald and Sparrow start still, because they are on the first line of the depth chart right now?
