Fran thought first dibs were earned or he would not have named him QB1.

He named him QB1 over what was on the current roster at the time Angeli wasn't on the roster. I don't know what is such a hard concept to understand? If you have a chance to make your football team better by bringing in a player the staff deems better and can help the football team win football games then you do it and let the chips fall where they fall. Everyone is named a starter until someone better is brought in. If Fran and company think Angeli is better bring him in and if they think Collins is better then they wont.

Personally, I was surprised that Fran named Rikki QB1 that early. It might have been a mistake, but to retract that now before Rikki has even played a down would be really throwing the kid under the bus in my mind. I do not believe that is who Fran is.

It wouldn’t be “retracted” now. They are not practicing. It would not be until at least several weeks of preseason practice. The new QB would have to earn the spot and Rickie would have to earn keeping the spot.

Who said anything about retracting? He IS the QB1 at this point, and would be entering camp no matter who we add.

Bringing in somebody to compete that Fran believes represents an upgrade isn't "retracting" -- its competition. Players compete for their roles every year.

And the point could be moot -- maybe we won't even pursue Angelli, or maybe even if we did Collins is better than him anyway.

But you don't try to recruit over guys on your roster because of "loyalty" - not at the P4 level.

Sure, but then he was named the starting Quarterback publicly and hyped up by the head coach. Going back on that now and saying actually we like this guy better would surely not go over well with Rickie. In my opinion one of the reasons Fran named him QB1 so early is to show confidence in him and rally the team around him as soon as possible, us going out and nabbing another QB as QB1 would undo all of that and really goes against virtually everything Fran has shown he stands for.

I don't disagree with that. My only point was that he came here knowing that he might have to sit for a year.

That’s not the issue, and it’s not just about Angeli. We don’t know what Angeli’s options will be and if any team will guarantee him a starting role. And we don’t know who else will be available.

I clearly said that if the staff thinks he is an upgrade they bring him in? That is there call not my call not your call. It is there job on the line not mine. Fran said he wants to bring in another QB so he wants to bring in someone else into that room if that was to challenge Rickie or not I don't know only the staff and maybe some people on here knows that.

If Fran thinks Angeli is better than Collins and can win more football games with him and doesn't bring him in because he gave him some mythical QB1 slot to the media to early then Fran isn't ready for big time football but from what I have seen about Fran he would be ready for that difficult conversation with Rickie if it came to that. (Again if he deemed Angeli an upgrade)

The talk was Collins was going to be LSU’s third string QB if he didn’t transfer, kinda similar to Angeli in that regard don’t you think.

Nah, he named him starter of the current team. If the makeup of the team changes, Fran will play the best players.
