Class of 2026 QB Zaid Lott (NC) COMMITTED TO SYRACUSE (3/25/25)

While Lott doesn't seem to be highly ranked, he did have a bunch of offers from decent programs.

I am not sure if they are committable offers, but I've learned to look more at the other schools that offered not just the ranking.

Being visual creatures, Lott's unimpressive highlight reel will have most of us doubting this kid's abilities until a new, more positively demonstrative clip becomes available Even the non-contact clip was underwhelming. I do, however, trust the coaches and Lott's still a senior year to go. Also his stats were pretty good and I'm sure he performed at a high level in other games...so there's that.
It's just that most prospective recruits' highlight reels are boffo, so (for whatever reason) when you see one so plainly mediocre it's jarring.

I said it up up thread, but that was one of only two videos I found of him on YouTube. The first was clearly mislabeled “highlight” reel.

I can imagine the other team had a fan who put together that film as a taunt after his school’s team whooped Zaid Lott and his team. Who knows.

What we do know is that Lott can’t pass effectively when he’s getting sacked every play. Very few QBs perform well under that kind of pressure, and almost none of them are still in high school. Lott was hit or had to scramble on almost every single drop back. The coaches were trying to help him with boot legs and other movement, but his offensive line was just destroyed by the other team.

Close, it was a guy who writes all about NC State sports.

He gets rid of the ball pretty quickly in the video. His line gave him no time to throw. I think it was a total of three times he was able to stay in the pocket.

I found this article that might explain the lowlights in that other video against Weddington.
"Lott missed the week's practice while he deals with an injury to his latissimus dorsi."

Weddington I believe also has 2 D tackles being recruited at high D-1 level. Pretty sure one is going to Ohio State.

Zaid, welcome!

A couple of those vids posted on this thread didn't show him in the greatest light and were not highlights. I was a bit disappointed at first as I watched those vids first. But that was also before I looked at his 2024 highlight film, which is the video you typically see for most players. His stats for 2024 were pretty good. He is fairly athletic but certainly not what i would call a duel threat QB with just 285 yds for 3.8 yds/car. He looks pretty calm in the pocket but from those other vids he can still improve in learning to avoid taking some sacks. He does have a really good arm, nice passing form and throws a nice ball. His 29 TD to 6 INT ratio is pretty solid but he does struggle a little with accuracy as he was 184/316 which is 58%. He is prototypical size at 6'-4" and 210 lbs. He played at a high level in NC so that effects stats some.

Zaid Lott's Providence Day High School Football Stats

Also i think one thing to keep in mind more than anything is for a long time he sat behind a very high 4 star (94 ranking on 247) stud QB that was a Freshman at Michigan this past season. So 2024 was really his first year starting at QB in HS. That certainly could contribute to some accuracy issues. He doesn't have a lot of experience and can hopefully develop better timing and touch with some throws. He should have a lot of growth yet. Also someone noted about an injury that took place right before one of those game videos so who knows there.

Below are his 2024 highlights on hudl that I watched. These are 8:24 long and the CuseLegacy ones posted above that are from Youtube above were 6:52. So I would think these should be the most comprehensive.

I still prefer Sidwar or Zammit but i’m sure they didn’t want to get in a bidding war. Plus, having a QB from Lasalle or DePaul would have been sweet.

It might be they also like Carney. He’s more similiar to Sidwar.
I personally think Sidwar's skillset is significantly better than Carney.
And taking Lott over Sidwar would have nothing to do with what they think of Carney.
You recruit the best players you can because no human can confidently know how the future ends up.

So allot happens behind the scenes. Perhaps Fran thought the other QBs were stringing things out. Maybe the player wanted to be paid. Just saying people are acting like Fran had a pick of 5 QBs and he chose who he chose. What he and Nixon did do was offer a talented if raw QB who in turn accepted. Win/Win. Again 6'4 210, strong arm, compact motion, can move around the pocket. Again a really good pickup.

I’m in the Carolinas and my son’s team played against his team in 7 on 7 last year.

Big kid. Cannon for an arm. Could work on his accuracy. Physically, reminded me of a young version of Joe Milton.

Very impressed with his maturity. Not uncommon for players to get out of control with the celebrations and trash talking at these 7 on 7 tournaments, but he was all business. Good plays, bad plays, he maintained the same demeanor. Lot of tools to work with.
