I wanted to point out one other thing that seems pretty dumb to me. Which is that Zaid Lott was given his 247 rating of an 85 in July of 2024. So this was before his junior season and after his Sophomore season where he was just 21 for 26 passing for 321 yds. It is not very often you see a rankings change from 247. The composite tends to change a little but I have noticed you don’t typically see a change from 247. Well at least for SU signings that is.

Camps

Yeah i realize that kids may have camped at that point. Then again maybe he didn't as well, we don't know. But a camp heading into his junior year can only give you so much, in game action and proven production obviously should be a large part of the puzzle in evaluation as well. Especially when the kid hasn't had much game experience yet. Just saying that initial ranking should not be a kids final ranking and I think it often is.

These recruiting sites are not as authentic as your guys think they care a lot about camps during the summer maybe even more important than actually games to be honest.

That doesn't mean that he won't pan out, or that he doesn't have a lot of the right tools -- but as I've said recruiting QB prospects at the collegiate level is a crapshoot. The recruiting sites tend to focus on physical attributes, but that doesn't measure / incorporate the intangibles required to be a quality QB at the collegiate level.

Such as the ability to process information quickly, sound decision making under fire / when the pass rush is live, instincts, the ability to make improvisational plays when protection breaks down, etc. These are the things that separate a Dungey / Shrader from players like Collins. And it seems to me that these attributes are even more important than the ones in the physical category in predicting future success [assuming that the player has some minimum threshold of the above physical capabilities].

Remains to be seen whether Lott / Dixon [the two QB prospects we have lined up in upcoming classes] have the latter set of attributes.

I initially thought that he might be a project as well but I kind of changed my mind on that now after rewatching his junior year film and seeing his stats. What makes you think he's a project at this point? He now has 2 complete seasons being a starter. He has good numbers. His completion percentage was a little low his junior season but it has improved to 64% this season. And he has just 1 interception. If you watch his highlights (Only junior year film available, not senior year yet) you can see he has a very good arm and i think he actually is a pretty accurate thrower. Its only highlights, but the passes were all in a good spot and there were almost no short passes in that film, all down field tougher throws. He seems to see the field pretty good and can hang in the pocket and make the throw. I like having a taler kid to see over our enormous linemen to help with seeing the routes developing and coverage. He has really good athletic ability to boot for a kid who is 6'4" 220 lbs. 62 rushing yds a game is pretty solid.

He’s a very under the radar guy who will develop and get better. Taking a year or 2 to get down his reading and processing ablilty so he isn’t a Rickie Collins who can’t process the field and go through his progressions.

Agree. At best he’s looking like a developmental player. Those stats, especially the completion % and YPC aren’t that good considering the level of play he’s going up against. That’s the AVERAGE completion % for CFB QB’s and below average YPC.

Huh? Are we looking at the same thing here? He’s averaging well over 10 yards a completion and playing at the highest level in NC football.

Unless you mean yards per carry - and 7.1 is pretty good. There’s nothing about those stats that would be alarming.

Yea i was wrong on that one. Posting and driving. I read it quick and thought yards per completion. Also, swore it was a Christian school. Think i got him mixed up with Robert Washington. I know Providence Day produces P4 talent. I’ll take the L.

It's not a Christian school but it is a school that plays in the NCISSA which is a NC conference for Independent schools...Christian/Parochial schools and Day schools. It isn't part of the 8 NC HS football conferences.

More like Luke Carney than Robert Washington.
