QB

Well, yeah, but in this case the backup QB was an ESPN top 300 guy.

There aren't many of those every year. I think there are only 300.

So everything we should have been able to be and do. Saddening
I don’t know about that….seems like Illinois has a better OLine than us?

We rely heavily on the QB’s running ability - and even a horse like Shrader breaks down eventually from all those hits. A smaller guy like Tommy wouldn’t hold up and has never shown to be a great runner anyway despite having solid speed….and we don’t have the OL/WR talent to play with a drop back QB who doesn’t run much.

We need the running QB for the offense to thrive.

Wilson all the way, GS has pulled out a couple of games late which is awesome but has not been that productive since Louisville (not counting Wagner and the not so tomato can U Conn)
Part of why Wilson did so well is that he is used to playing with the back ups which he throws to every day in practice which is typical for back ups and growing to trust them.

Wilson has a live arm and can run when needed!
We should start him unless Shrader is 100%.!

According to PFF Illinois grades 31st in the country for pass blocking. SU grades 47th.

There is a lot to be excited about with Wilson and it would't be shocking if he ends up with the single season passing record if given the chance to start from game 1 next season.

However, Shrader is the proven game manager in the QB room on the 2022, 6-2 football team.

Something that is different today, is that Pitt now has some tape with Wilson taking snaps against a power five defense. It's unknown, how Wilson will respond if he were to play a conference game from start to finish. Although, this may be known sooner than 2023 and as early as next Saturday. However, the only circumstance that this should be known prior to 2023 is if Shrader isn't healthy enough to go whether it's next week or the weeks after.

If 2022 was a bad season, they should mix it up even if Shrader is healthy. But it's already a good season with a substantial sample size, so as long as Shrader and any other of the starters for that matter are healthy enough they should be the ones that play despite the chance that they are backups in the pipeline that may end up having better careers than them.

Past success doesn’t dictate current and future.

Maybe? I don’t care at this point, I’m happy with Shrader, CDRW, and Lamson.
I am Syracuse Orange believe me when I say it. My only gripe is that kid got crucified here for the same things as Shrader does and Shrader gets a pass. Shrader/DelRio-Wilson/Lamson (next year’s) I don’t care just win. I don’t care who the quarterback is as long as Syracuse wins!!!!!

Count me on Wilson’s train.

Say what you will. I do not care if im dragged for this. I knew it was going to be “that game” after play 1’s pick 6. That can never ever happen. Ever.

Should be an open battle for QB starting tomorrow. I will NOT forget that we have not been to a bowl in years. Nothing has been earned.
I seem to remember you being all in on TD in 2018 also

There were like 3 guys on the board who weren’t at the time and Dungey had what was nearly a season ending injury vs Notre Dame the next game. Glad I was wrong.

I recall many were “DeVito has helped us win two games so if Eric is hurt, then go with TD…”, and a few were “TD is better because he has more arm talent and we must have a pocket passer to run our “real” offense and Dino is dumbing it down to tailor things to Eric”…..the latter were the ones who were off the mark.

How will Shrader be healthy enough when he threw a pick 6 on the first play and couldn't even chase the guy down? That wasnt a new injury he played a half of football on it and Pitt is just a week away. He might be healthier than he was vs ND but it won't be a full recovery.

You can't think of starting him for this one. FSU different story. You can give him a full week off then a week of first team reps if we don't want to stick with CDRW.

I agree with this. He’s clearly not healthy right now, his worst 2 halves of football were the last 2. He has to get some rest. Go with Wilson this week and then hopefully Shrader is 90%+ for FSU at home.

His foot is in such bad shape, it's affecting his throws as much as his running. They should've pulled him a lot earlier than they did
Seriously dudes been in a protective walking boot the last 3 weeks during the week (3 weeks!), and yet still plays and lays it all out there.

Everyone needs to get the off his case and the team in general cuz as I said to my friends last night if and until you play “banged up” not able to be the player you are and want to be, and can be but just can’t be while still giving it 100% of what you have left, its too easy to get negative.

It’s why I wasn’t pissed at all yesterday playing a blue blood team with endless depth on the lines. Here’s hoping the the teams we face going forward are dealing with the same and we pull out a couple more(yes with 16 if 6 is not 100%).

Let’s continue support these guys as the season winds down and on knowing the challenges this program faces as A program in general, and individually with what this brutal sport does to these kids bodies.

Were usually on the same page, not today. GS took us to 6-0 and a near win against Clemson. The guy was not near 100% . If he is , he’s the starter.

See I feel like the defense got us to 6-0 with an offense that was just good enough. It’s not like the offense and Shrader carried the D.

Shrader “carried the d” against Purdue. D let up the easy td to the idiot TE, Shrader saved the day to 19 saving the D arse

A few things on this game.

Syracuse Defense had only allowed 9 points through 3 quarters.

Defense made a 4th down stop at the 11 yard line.

In the 4th Q Caleb Okechukwu had a pick 6 touchdown to get Syracuse to 25.

Syracuse offense went 3 and out twice in the 4th Q. And totaled 306 yards for the game 3-12 on 3rd down and 0-1 on 4th down.

Shrader was 13-29 passing.

We punted 6 times.

After Purdue made it 29-25 they had their penalty meltdown giving Syracuse the ball at midfield.

Syracuse offense did just enough to win this game. Just enough and obviously had some clutch plays at the end. But they didn’t carry the team and without the pick 6 they lose.

Syracuse is ranked 16th in total defense while the offense is ranked 70th.

Hey Dasher since the game thread is closed I’ll post my response here.

No he was not offered by Alabama. Me saying ‘the entire SEC’ was a bit hyperbole but he had offers from Florida(signed), Florida State, Arizona State, Georgia Tech, Duke, LSU, Kentucky, Louisville, Miami, Michigan , NC State, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Virginia Tech. That was reported. Point still stands he’s the highest rated most heavily offered quarterback Syracuse has ever had.

You should go back to saying he should not play because he has no experience and the coaches know what they have.

Wilson is going to make some mistakes but he has far and away more upside than Schrader. the kid is the future at Syracuse I’d roll the dice with him.
I loved what I saw. I guess you don't like that I tend to agree with the coaches if it is a kid I haven't seen play. Silly me. I disagreed with Dino when he said he graded Wilson as a C. Tough grader.
And since I took your word for it, I told a guy that he was offered by Alabama. Thanks

And our D is permanently down 3 starters now - and still hanging tough for the most part. We can’t afford to lose any more people though.

And may I add a “hell yea”.

One random question to the board - the right guard on ND was making a pre snap stabbing motion all game. Why is that not a penalty? The sudden ness of the motion seemed intent to initiate movement - what gives?

Shrader was offered by Alabama. Does that count?

Hardly anyone is on his case, they're mad at the people who chose to play him when he isn't physically able

You win as a team and lose as a team. The defense has done allot of good things (top 25 with injuries), our special teams are way better and we literally have had a top ten ranked in the country QB and people on this board can't be happy? Yeah the loss to Clemson sucked, we were that close. ND ran on us and we all knew was a weak area. We still can get some more wins this season even with all the injuries. Let Del Rio be the back up and hopefully help us win next week and when GS is healthy he will also help us win like he has done all season.
