any news if he can play this year?
Former Oklahoma running back Brandon Williams, who transferred to Texas A&M after just one season in Norman, will redshirt for his sophomore year after being denied a waiver by the NCAA to play in 2012.
He told AggieYell.com in January that he’d decided to transfer to be closer to his 2-year old daughter.
Because Williams did not redshirt at OU, he will have three years of eligibility at Texas A&M beginning in 2013.

See farther up the thread. An A&M transfer had his waiver denied after moving closer to home for his daughter. No direct knowledge but I thought I heard that Raymon has a child within a short drive of Syracuse which was his reason to the NCAA for transferring from Iowa.
Unlike Lynch who was just homesick.

Who had been born before he went to college.
That's Lynch referenced above. He claimed medical hardship but from reading on the internet it doesn't sound like as strong a case. I don't know all the details though.A DE for South Florida just had his waiver denied after transferring from Notre Dame. I don't know what his story was, though, but could this set a precedent for Raymon or are the cases completely different?
His current weight isn't an issue. With Bromley not 100% we need all the bodies we can get.I actually hope he isn't eligible to play. He's learning the system as well as trying to shed a lot of weight. I know he's done some of both so far, but it seems SU has some depth there this year. Next year he can come in after a year in the system and he should be more ready to contribute from both a physical standpoint as well as knowing the play book.
Kyle Prater, a highly touted recruit out of HS that initially went to USC, was able to get clearance to play for Northwestern without sitting a year. His waiver was based on being closer to home to be near a sick family member. He looks like he could be a problem for us. Wish the NCAA would have mulled over this decision for a month longer.

I think that when they flipped the coin on his case, the coin landed on it's side and they just didn't know what to do. One guy said to blow on it, another said no, that isn't per procedure. Another said to just leave it and eventually it would fall one way or the other. But, when they came back, it was gone, but Jimmy the intern was sitting there with a snack from the vending machine...hmmm. But now they are searching their manuals to find a procedure on how to deal with this situation. At least that is what the West Virginia guy told me was going on.Put me in the boat of "probably not in time for this week". Maybe sometime in September. The NCAA has a ton of these requests to process at this time of year. The fact that it hasn't been denied yet is a good sign that his case has made it to a higher level.
The higher-level person who rules on this is probably on vacation this week and will have a ton of emails to go through next week and won't get to it until the following week. [sarcasm font]
