if this were true other victims would have come forward by now.

If Fine had this problem he couldnt just stop because these two schmucks wouldnt play along anymore. he would find other kids to rape.

That's a big sticking point for me as well. It just doesn't make sense, which is why the longer we go without anyone coming forward the better it bodes for us as a program.

The story broke only like 36 hours ago.

It's possible they go to the police and don't want to go public though, right?

Agreed.

I made a similar point yesterday, Tristan. In my mind, this ENTIRE case hinges upon whether any other people come forward--because I don't think that these two will be perceived as credible.

If one [or more] does, we're in big trouble. If not, this will blow over.

NFW ESPN wouldnt find this out and put it out... "an unnamed 3rd victim..."

If even one more person (especially one not associated with Lang) comes forward, it's game, set, match.

I am sure if ESPN got a hold of it they would 100% take it public.

if someone elese came forward, we would not know for a couple of days - they would have to interview them and then if it was decided that there was a possibility, then it would get leaked

Let's just say its tru that Bernie was in fact a molester and no one knew about this and there was no cover up, how would this be "game set match"? I'm assuming you mean from a recruiting perspective going forward?

I think he means that given Boeheim's vociferous defense of Bernie, that he'd perish in flames along with Bernie in the aftermath of more victims coming forward.

Given what just transpired at Penn State, Boeheim would be a goner, as well. The University [if not the NCAA] would scorch the earth around the program, and who knows if we'd ever recover.

It would be game, set, match for JB.

I'm saying in terms of this becoming a legitimate scandal potentially reaching PSU heights.

EDIT: And also what AZ and RF said.

Absolutely, but for the rest of the staff? That's more important to me. I love JB but I know he's only got a couple years left anyhow. Is Hopkins still around if these allegations turn out to be true?

Sort of agree. However, it only takes one kid to be molestation and I think the whole thing hinges on whether it can be proven that Bernie was guilty of doing it even once. Regardless of whether the guy is credible, if other evidence comes to light then it doesn't matter if other kids were involved or not.

I remain neutral on the whole thing and am waiting for the facts to come out one way or the other. So far, previous investigations have proven nothing but who knows.

I'm more annoyed by the columnists and reporters who say "if true..." and then proceed to say or write a few thousand words going on the assumption that it IS true.

I can't help but wonder about Davis though; if this proves false how do you go through life? You move to rural Idaho or someplace to escape from it all and someday some guy in a bar is staring at you and finally says "hey, aren't you the guy who told the world that at 27 you were having sex with an old, fat, unattractive Jewish guy?" Try living that down.

No way. Everyone on staff would be gone. Hop and Kissel especoially; they've been around for years and years and could be implicated as knowing something.

This whole thing is a sordid, disgusting clusterfark of a mess.

This isn't the same as Penn State. If Bernie led some sort of secret life which nobody knew about (which obviously the head coach didn't), I'm not sure the rest of the program would need to pay with their jobs. At Penn State, there is evidence that the administration wascovering things up. The cover up is what will cost the Penn State staffs their jobs. I think the only way we do a Penn state type clean up is if there is evidence of a cover up

The stance that JB has taken leads me to believe he would be toast. If these allegations pan out, he's spent the past 48 hours attacking sex abuse victims. Hard to recover from that.

Usually leaks come from either disgruntled employees, or b/c the leaker actually wants the info disseminated but can't yet go public with it. Here, if there's even one additional accuser, the investigators have to believe there are potentially others, and leaking could have two effects: It could spur additional people to come forth or, if the community rallied behind Fine, it would likely chill the investigation.

The thing is, at the heart of this Davis seems to be saying that he was Bernie's constant companion, went on recruiting trips with him, shared his hotel room, etc.
What he is alleging is almost the antithesis of Bernie having a secret life."

The kid lived with him for years right? Would Boeheim and other assistants assume he is raping the boy? Maybe I'm naive but I don't assume foster parents are raping their children.
