First Iwill preface my comments by saying that Providence gave us a great game last night. The kids at Providence played as hard as any team we have played this year. Good job.
Now on to my comments:
There have been (are) basically 4 threads/lines that focus on the game last night.
1) One thread actually focused on the game and, to me, provided great insight and was very supportive of their team and their team's efforts. It was a very positive thread. As I said the Providence kids played a great game ... way above expectations and their fanbase should be pretty happy and proud for what they did last night. I know I was biting my nails on several occasions. BTW ... for us SU fans ... it''s not bad to compliment the other team for doing a great job.
2) The 2nd thread I was less happy with was one that seemed to focus on one of their players in a negative way (Coleman). I know we (SU) have had similar threads. Coleman played his heart out last night as did the rest of the kids on your team. He's a sophmore ... he will get better. And you have a great coach and a very scrappy team right now... they will get better with your new recruits coming in.
3) Then there were the obligatory negative threads (2/4). The first was, of course, related to the SU fans at the game (Yeah, we've heard it before). It was the usual exaggerations that annoy me most. SU fans travel and if you leave enough tickets they will fill your arena. There were some who indicated that the SU fans were "generally" good... the most annoying aspect was the "continual" chanting through the NA. As game goers we know that there is no "continual" chanting only the "O" at the "O Say... etc" part of the NA. A lot of insults on the Board ... but at least we seem to be third to UConn and West Virginia fans. Just be prepared b/c as long as we fill the seats that their fans give up we (SU) will always be viewed negatively as we cheer louder.
4) Finally the infamous "Chat Room" thread. This is where it became really negative (as Jordoo found out). I wasn't in the Chat Room last night so I don't know what transpired ... I do know that one of their posters talked about Cooley's hair being made fun of? Worse the poster than talked about the current thread (he/she saw as negative) on Cooley's hair and reported it as being really negative. My comment to him ... READ THE ENTIRE THREAD IDIOT!! I think that the SU fans were generally sensitive to the issue. I guess my one problem was with the posters who were making the comments in this thread but were so "enlightened" in their comments in the 1st thread I talked about.
What this all comes down to ... as it did with the NC State Board ... as long as SU wins and is #1 and as long as SU fans travel and support their team like few others do ... there will always be negative comments coming from the other side. Appreciate that despite that there are always good fans on both sides that do not need to lower themselves to negative levels.
