I agree with your point that BC and Pitt can rebound pretty quickly. Pitt will benefit from the woes of PSU in recruiting Pennsylvania -- likely more than we will. BC and Pitt have the same ACC advantage that we do versus UConn & Rutgers. Sure, we should be on the upswing, but the impact on recruiting will be incremental and the coaches still need to build the positive buzz about our program (negatives about rivals won't close many deals).. . . . the timing being good for SU football right now. But I'm not sure of two things:
-- Playing freshmen equates to this team being any better than it is
or
-- the notion that a win makes a huge difference in our overall recruiting efforts. I mean, we just signed our "best class" (I'm fairly skeptical of really judging this today, but it at least seems like our best class), much of which signed on during our 5-7 season. We're off to a very solid start this year and that's in the wake of the dismal season and now an 0-2 start.
... DM is pretty likely to be here a year, maybe even two years from today and, in that view, he's better off redshirting.
We have a solid start to recruiting this year -- but candidly, we still need a strong close in November - January.
As to playing true freshmen, haven't seen anyone suggest why "seize the moment" means that Marrone should do something different (in going after wins, or deciding which frosh should play, focus on recruiting better prospects) than he would always do. Except for that suggestion about using negatives about rivals -- fine, but kids already know about the ACC, PSU and Pitt's slow start.
