Referee Justin Porterfield

Not one angle shows if he fouled him so why is everyone so upset. The only view shows they he did reach for the shooter but you cant tell anything with this bad angle from that. He did foul him 2-3 times coming down court that got ignored.
By “horrible”, I mean horribly inconsistent. If the couple reach-ins down the court aren’t a foul then the reach-in “foul” right before he shot the 3 isn’t a foul either regardless if his hand made contact. It looked like the same reach-in motion to me, at least in that clip.

I think ND’s lack of execution is the bigger issue. If the plan was to foul, double team the ball handler and make it obvious around half court. So what if you leave a guy wide open under the basket. It’s still just 2 points.

Terrible ref work, which isn’t a surprise. How in the world that’s a SHOOTING foul is beyond me
Because of college basketball’s new continuation rule. Players absorbing contact after ending their dribble can now finish the play, even if the foul occurred slightly before the upward shooting motion.

But he called this…

He was a part of the crew, but Porterfield is the ref standing right there in our game that refused to blow the whistle. Tommy Morrissey, who was also on the cal game and our hofstra game, I’ve always felt was dirty. He’s the one that “saw the ball go off our hands” from mid court against hofstra.

But the contact was 3 dribbles before
3 dribbles before, the Cal player was at half court. Contact is irrelevant unless the ref blows the whistle and calls it. The ref obviously didn’t blow the whistle at half court.

You commented how was it a shooting foul.

Ref blew the whistle right after the Cal player stopped dribbling and was planting his feet to go up into his shooting motion. Hence, he got the continuation call.

Which also screws ND. Cal never would have gotten a 4 point play if they called the foul coming down the court. They wouldn't even have gotten a 3 to tie it.

ND got screwed hard.
Did ND get screwed on the call? And hard?

That is so too bad

I am shocked he wasn't suspended for at least one game. Not only did he charge at the ref with such intense anger, but as he was being held back by about 5 of his guys he had his arm cocked as if he was going to throw a punch at the refs back. I watched that game, and what he did was just insane. He needs to go to anger management. This was beyond any type of normal behavior.

Not wholly different than JB self restraining with his jacket

Imagine if a player were to act like that. There would be much more than a ‘reprimand’ from the ACC.
