Referee Justin Porterfield

It's a tacit admission from the ACC that the call was so hideously bad that they're not going to compound matters further.

Bad calls happen. Ridiculously bad calls happen. I'm not sure this ref should ever see a court again.

But to not suspend Schrewsberry is malpractice. Just means he can do it again. This league is Mickey Mouse.

Because of college basketball’s new continuation rule. Players absorbing contact after ending their dribble can now finish the play, even if the foul occurred slightly before the upward shooting motion.
Slightly before? You must be joking.

3 dribbles before, the Cal player was at half court. Contact is irrelevant unless the ref blows the whistle and calls it. The ref obviously didn’t blow the whistle at half court.

You commented how was it a shooting foul.

Ref blew the whistle right after the Cal player stopped dribbling and was planting his feet to go up into his shooting motion. Hence, he got the continuation call.
But there was no contact at that point, this our disbelief they called it a shooting foul.

I think we are conflating two different topics.

1) What actually was called. That’s why I explained why the player got the continuation call when the ref blew the whistle and called a foul.

2) Whether or not it was the right call. I think we all agree, that “foul” was a bad call especially given they didn’t call anything the entire play up the court when they were trying to foul.

So it’s was a mess from the start. Just say that then. The ref missed the obvious fouls then called the phantom foul. So yes, he needs to be sidelined and investigated for failure to do his job

Yeah Shrewsbury had a meltdown in the dome last year when ND blew an 18 pt lead and lost to SU.
The year before Bell hit a 3 in front of their bench, turned and said something and Shrewsbury got up and was yelling at Bell down the court. IIRC Autry sat Bell down for that but Shrewsbury has a prior behavior of this if you look back at the game last year and even 2 years ago.
