Regardless how you feel about Fran

Well then, be prepared to pony up. 5-stars ain't coming to Syracuse to sit. Alabama, maybe. But not Syracuse.

I hate to say it, but that's what it is.

True. But as the King has been preaching, we need to find a QB in the middle. Not the 3 star ranked around #50, but maybe a 4 star ranked in the top 25 (of QBs), that can be someone who's functional right away if pressed into duty. But also willing to sit a year and learn.

Maybe Fran will have more faith in Carney next season, hoping his right arm magically gets stronger. Don't know. But for now, just seems like an odd recruit based on how they're afraid to let him throw. Just doesn't seem like the type that would want to wait around for 2-3 years of development time, given where he's from and how much he played in HS.

Do players really have a path to the NFL with this staff?

There are 7 guys from last year's team in the League. If that's not SU's most ever, it's gotta be close. One of our skill position guys has made an instant impact. DART!

Next year... Jack has a great shot to make the league. Dan could stick too. Other guys will get looks.
Sorry but OG II and LeQuint were beasts before this staff, Wax too. McCord and Fadil ok

An exceptional QB can make mediocre players serviceable (or better). It’s really hard for exceptional WR’s to make what we saw out of Filardi on Friday better. If it’s me, I err on the side of over investing at QB and OL. Yeah, you’ll have holes elsewhere, but if you have a hole at QB you’re doomed.
Yep a solid QB masks deficiencies everywhere including and especially on defense. There’s no more important and vital position in all of sports

That’s why I said we need to bring in elite quarterbacks to Syracuse — so we can build a pipeline of guys ready to compete right away, not just rely on undersized 3-star prospects. Also, you’re going off-topic — I never mentioned anything about coaching development or players getting better on campus. The point is, this staff has already sent 11 players to the NFL, so the talent development is clearly there.
Going off topic? How do you think players get to the NFL if they’re not coached up and get better during college lol

I think people underestimate how hard recruiting QBs is - it’s a challenge at college and in the NFL draft. Sometimes QBs look really good because the talent they have on OL provides great protection and they have WRs who can constantly get open. “Throw it to the high-level D1 WR recruits who are embarrassing the DBs” is not a bad strategy - but it also can lead to a QB who has no ability to work through progressions and can’t process information fast enough.

I’m more concerned that every one of our QBs look like the game is going way too fast for them than I am about their skill sets like arm strength or accuracy. Sometimes that processing speed can get better - but it requires actual game play which means you need to at least show some ability occasionally. The guys we have can’t even do that. There’s nobody on the roster I’d be willing to give another chance to; whoever is the back-up next year better not be on the roster right now. If all the guys except Angeli that are on the roster now are gone next year (or focusing only on lax) - I’d be fine with that. Including Carney.

Recruit them. Pony up the money. Give the kids a clear plan for their path to the NFL. Being in a pass-heavy scheme is very attractive, especially with the elite WRs we always bring in. So tell me — how can we not make it happen?
Isn’t that exactly what Ricky Collins was supposed to be.

Coaching helps, sure, but it doesn’t magically turn every recruit into an NFL player. You still need talent to work with. This staff has proven they can develop players — 11 guys to the NFL don’t lie. And are you blind? True freshmen and sophomores like Samuels, Antoine, Tremble, and Bryon have all improved significantly this season. So don’t act like talent development isn’t happening — do you even watch the team?

do you think we should have Zaid Lott decommit since he’s not a four-star high school quarterback and is more developmental?
I think he’s underrated — after watching his tape, I genuinely believe he should be a 4-star recruit. He also has great size and the physical tools to make an immediate impact. Zadd Lott is a fantastic player, and I fully expect him to develop into a starter for us down the line. That said, I don’t think we need to bring in two or three quarterbacks from the portal. What we really need is at least one who can compete with Steve immediately, ideally with two years of eligibility left, and one or two others who are talented but still need development, with four years of eligibility to grow into their roles. This approach balances immediate competition with long-term depth.Looking ahead, I also believe we should start targeting elite quarterbacks consistently beginning with the 2027 class — ideally bringing in a high-level 4-star QB every year or every other year. Building that pipeline will give the program a steady stream of top-tier talent and set us up for sustained success at the quarterback position.

do you pay attention to overall recruiting in college football ? Because I do and I have seen top 4 star and even five star quarterbacks wait their turn to start.
that doesn’t help your argument… that means even if they could start at another school they’re willing wait. You do see the how this proves Syracuse can’t just snap their fingers and get a top QB right?

Sure, some elite QBs wait at other schools—but that’s usually because they’re behind entrenched starters. Syracuse can offer them a chance to start right away, play in a pass-heavy offense, and showcase themselves for the NFL. That’s exactly the kind of opportunity that can make a top QB choose us immediately over waiting somewhere else.

Maybe this staff can develop maybe they can’t but I think the jury is still out

OG II, LaQuint, Marlowe Wax and Justin Baron were Dino’s guys.

McCord and Fadil credit Fran. I don’t think there is anyone else in the NFL from last years team?

Bottom line these last couple of games were GRob bad. At least Schafer had an identify on defense

Idk what to tell you. Syracuse has had an open QB competition for quite a few years and has never signed an elite QB out of HS. If you don’t want to see the writing on the wall then I can’t help you

Meeks who Fran brought in, Clark is getting run for the Cowboys and Dino brought him in.

I think they just missed on Collins. A failure of evaluation. They way overrated him and probably were shocked he's this bad at a lot of key things. Fran thought he was going into the season with 2 good QBs. When Angeli went down and Collins was forced to play it all hit the fan. They don't have a decent #3 and let's face it a program like ours is not going to have a high quality QB3 waiting in the pipeline. That only happens at the biggest athletic glamour factories where a 4-5 star kid is willing to wait in line.

Being in Fran’s program for one year doesn’t get credit as a development in my book.

McCord, Diggs and Meeks were Fran “recruits” from the portal not “developments”.
Meeks was nothing more than special teams at UGA. The year he played at SU, UGA led the country in drops. So he doesn’t get noticed if he doesn’t play for Fran and he “developed” far more than Diggs and McCord in that regard but again that wasn’t the point of my post. It was who Fran should receive credit for besides McCord and Diggs and that would be Meeks.

Fran also was with Meeks at UGA for two seasons prior as well. He recruited Meeks to Syracuse and made an impact. Is Meeks in the NFL? Yes. Did Fran bring him in? Yes. Re-read what I was responding to.
