Certainly not warm and cuddly but Knight and Branch McCracken before him made Indiana a basketball power.Good -- Bob Knight is/was a terrible person on so many levels.

Are Knight and K really all that different overall or do they have many same qualities? They were are both great coaches thats for sure
I have not but have you seen a Knight player break a guys nose with their elbow? And lets think about it, who was more injured? The IU player or Tyler Hansbro? But i guess those are two different thingsYes, they're completely different. Knight was a brutish bully -- K is nothing like that. Have you ever read about K physically abusing someone or publicly humiliating someone?
I'm sure that what JB said to TRob behind closed doors about his performance last week is far worse than any soundbite he gave to the media.
Im certainly not arguing w you but what GREAT coaches are nice guys?
well, he isWhat does Etan Thomas know? He's not HOF'er.
ucla?Maybe UCLA? They're the only other team I can think of off the bat with some serious early departures and not a bunch of Final Fours to show for it.
I think they lost 3 early entrees the year we lost Ennis/Grant.ucla?
"I didn't criticize him,'' Boeheim said. "I said he wouldn't be playing if he got four rebounds and no points. That's all.
"I don't think it's wrong. If somebody doesn't play well, it's up to the coach to get him to play better or play somebody else. That's the point I was making.''
"We can't win with him playing 37 minutes and getting those results, that's the truth,'' Boeheim said Monday. "Some people don't like the truth. He needs to play better.''

How can you say the end results can't be debated. Two years ago was over 25 wins. Last season was a poor one but was cut short due to sanctions. And this year is not done yet.You can't leave out these factors and still consider it a fair evaluation of the staff's work recruiting (especially when who knows where we would be without Gbinije transferring in). Every school that we try to view as our peer group has had early defections and/or transfers, it is a part of the deal when you want to recruit top level players. We as a fan base view ourselves and want to be treated/viewed as a program in that top 6-8 tier but in order to compete at that level you have to recruit at a top level year in and year out. We simply haven't done that the last few years and it caught up to us the last two seasons.
Reality is we missed on some of our evaluations when making decisions on who to "take" and didn't have the player development/depth to absorb some of the early defections. This falls on the staff as recruiting, evaluating, and developing talent is a huge part of their job. Historically they have been pretty good at this but the last few years they haven't been. The reasons behind it could be discussed and debated for hours but the end results can't.
I will say there are times i have been very critical of JB, either his coaching or my perception of his rigidness or his surliness. But then he said something so simple and cliche: something along the lines of - if you dont like my coaching get your own team. Typical JB but Imo he is correct, if i really dont like something he does I can get my own team to coach and show i can do it better or i can find another team to be a fan of. I have decided to stay a SU fan and i have also decided i could never be 1/100th the coach he is. I did not particularly like his statement about TR but it is part and parcel of how he runs his team and who he is as a coach."i didn't criticize him." JB you clearly lack the self edit gene. "37 minutes " not the truth . he only played 25. truth.
a simple apology monday for trashing your player publicly after a tough loss probably was you best play here.
but you're the hall o' famer! well played. NOT!!!!
Sorry, but I just can't go out and get another Alma Mater...I will say there are times i have been very critical of JB, either his coaching or my perception of his rigidness or his surliness. Another simple and cliche paraphrase from Barnes in Platoon- there is the way it outta be. And there is the way it is.
Very valuable quote in life imo
If JB hasn't said this stuff unfiltered directly to TR, then that's not doing your job. If he has said it and it didn't register, I'm still not clear on what is gained from publicly berating someone other than the "satisfaction" of publicly berating someone - and we know that he is more than capable of taking such satisfaction. Not a good look.JB has always been unkind to players via the press. It's one of the few really bad things about him, IMO. Players today don't take it as well as somebody like Rony Seikaly, who was one of the original Boeheim whipping boys. All that bitching got Rony an 11 year NBA career and a trip to the NCAA championship game, but most players can't take being berated like that for so long. The days of Bobby Knight, Bill Parcells kinds of coaches are coming to a close.
Yea i get it but what you are saying is that you are loyal to your U and wouldnt go out and find another team to root for? Well if thats the case maybe all of us should be loyal to the man who for decades has built this program to what it is? The same man, that your U has stayed loyal to and decided to put his name on the court. And the same man who won a NC (and btw, fans come on here and say guys like Dixon and Bennett own JB but yet those guys havent won a NC). All imoSorry, but I just can't go out and get another Alma Mater...

As for recruiting, last year they brought in Mal, Lydon, and FH - seems like an excellent haul to me. Yes, we could have used a center. But most of us can see what happened, Bryant went elsewhere and Diagne didn't make it. Tough crowd that thinks that recruiting class isn't top tier.
Next year there is Battle and Moyer and PC. Isn't that top tier already? And they are trying hard to add in the big man depth in Thompson.
I'm sure that what JB said to TRob behind closed doors about his performance last week is far worse than any soundbite he gave to the media.
Oh i hear ya. Most of us do. and i truly hope that works out well for you as long as JB is coach. And if youre hoping for a new coach soon, good luck w that too. Both the timing and the end results...should be interesting to see how it all turns out.if i don't like something someone says i speak my piece Jack. no matter who's name is on the court. truth.
Nope not on this years team! But see maybe this is JBs point: if TRob had put up his usual 10 and 9 against either ul or pitt, maybe we would have had a chance to win. Maybe he wasnt showing up TR for the duk game or the uconn game etc etc where he played outstanding. Or for the entirety of his season thus far. Maybe he showed him up only for the 5 and 8 combined he put up for the last two games. And listen, i dont agree w how he did it at presser. Honestly thought it was bushleague. But i wouldnt expect JB to change. Those two games were huge and we lost em both, you really think JB is gonna be bunnies and flowers? I would be hugely disappointed if he were. But yes i agree w you, when some of these HOF coaches lose it wouldnt hurt for them to share more of the blame. I wont hold my breath w JB on that thoif i don't like something someone says i speak my piece Jack. no matter who's name is on the court. truth.
ps. roberson's averaging 10 and 9 in conference. you got somebody better ?
Is there a fan base ofanother program in country that spends more energy discussing and worrying about early departures ? Jeez, I could see it if we had Duke, UNC, or UK's track record in the last decade, but we are more in the 10-20 range in that time.
Yes, they're completely different. Knight was a brutish bully -- K is nothing like that. Have you ever read about K physically abusing someone or publicly humiliating someone?
Disagree. He should say that to him in private. Not public. The funny thing is that Jb gets all upset when the Post Standard put his record against pitino in the paper. That was just a fact. Jb can't have it both ways. Some are acting as if Boeheim said Tyler sucks or got personal. All he basically said was that he has to play better.
He used some hyperbole to initially get his message across ("he wouldn't play a minute"). Then later described exactly how it is ("He's getting the same opportunities that Lydon is getting. You can't have a junior be in the program and play all the time, and when you get to your junior year, he can't score. You can't win. You can't win that way.").
Some here need to get a grip.
