Remember when I said the coaching staff

He hit Jeff Capel or had some sort of altercation with him. Back in the backache days he wasn't so nice. Guess it worked out in the end.
Once had my fball coach throw a clipboard at my head when my helmut was off. You know what i deserved it. One of the best and favorite coaches ive ever had. Learned more from him than all but maybe two people. Capel would probably characterize what ever happened w K in similar way. Likely most of his IU players would say same about Knight...and SU players on JB...tough for us fans to see a player coach perspective obviously

Disagree. He should say that to him in private. Not public. The funny thing is that Jb gets all upset when the Post Standard put his record against pitino in the paper. That was just a fact. Jb can't have it both ways.
Maybe the altruism he shows to student reporters through his dickishness making them better reporters is just being extended to the Post Standard.

I bet your coach didn't tell the school paper that you he only played you because he had no other options.

Some are acting as if Boeheim said Tyler sucks or got personal. All he basically said was that he has to play better.

He used some hyperbole to initially get his message across ("he wouldn't play a minute"). Then later described exactly how it is ("He's getting the same opportunities that Lydon is getting. You can't have a junior be in the program and play all the time, and when you get to your junior year, he can't score. You can't win. You can't win that way.").

Some here need to get a grip.

But they don't get the same opportunities. Lydon got passed the ball in places where he could score. Roberson got one touch and missed a shot.

More Boeheim nonsense, saying something inappropriate and clumsily trying to defend it.

There's nothing you could have done that would make that appropriate. Suspend you, bench you, kick you off the team if necessary. Throwing a clipboard at someone's head is completely out of line.

I googled "Coach K Jeff Capel altercation" and couldn't find anything. Where did you hear about that?

Lol if he had i probably would have quit the team , i was a prima donna. The guy was a dck but he was also a great coach. The two are rarely synonymous imo

Edit well maybe rarely isnt the term i should use, but you get my point

Double edit, shoot i guess i meant mutually exclusive not synonymous

I know a guy who covered Duke sports for their student paper in those days.

I have no issues with tough coaching, it certainly has its uses. My issue is with going about it this way, outside the circle. It's shameful.

It's a sham of a travesty. It's a shavesty.

Yeah see this is what i dont understand, i heard TR is thinking about turning pro or whatever, im sure you saw that rumor thread. Anyway if that happens to be the case: If i was TR and then JB said that then i would almost certainly make up my mind to leave. So what does JBs quote accomplish unless he wants TR to leave. Us fans will never understand unless we have inside info

Whoah. You're serious? You honestly think Roberson doesn't score as much as Lydon simply because TyRobe doesn't get the same opportunities?

Maybe it was a message to those who are advising TyRobe.

Possibly. My own feeling is if TR is not committed to being here (and i am not saying that is the case only if) he should move on. That way a talented young man like Moyer who bleeds Orange will get to play more. So be it. My guess is the Moyer is a good player

Maybe the intent is to give him a dose of reality, I don't know. But it sure could look like he is trying to tank his draft stock because he disagrees with the decision.

"I didn't criticize him,'' Boeheim said. "I said he wouldn't be playing if he got four rebounds and no points. That's all.

"I don't think it's wrong. If somebody doesn't play well, it's up to the coach to get him to play better or play somebody else. That's the point I was making.''

"We can't win with him playing 37 minutes and getting those results, that's the truth,'' Boeheim said Monday. "Some people don't like the truth. He needs to play better.''

Easy there jim

Here's what I don't understand about the majority posting in this thread... Boeheim praised Roberson to the media after the Duke game because he played like a beast and deserved that recognition, it's not like Boeheim refuses to acknowledge him when he does well. Roberson then follows up with pretty much a multiple game no show and Boeheim challenges/points out his lack of impact (perhaps as a way of motivation). Now all of sudden Boeheim is "mean" and shouldn't speak to a "kid" (dude's like 20-21 years old at least) like that as an amateur athlete? I'm failing to see how Boeheim is in the wrong here.

Sooooo... This does not bode well for a Hopkins administration. Unless he can Jekyll-and-Hyde it in short order.

Players are changing. They don't take that much in the NBA anymore, either. You have to be able to reach players to motivate them. If they tune you out, that tends not to work out well.

The pussification of America.

When I was an officer in the Army I was taught to praise publicly, discipline privately. It's basic leadership.

I don't think it's about what he said. It's the forum he chose to say it that bothers many of us.

Yes, you shouldn't bury a kid in the press. Especially like what he did with McCullough last year, where he seemed to go out of his way to hurt the kid's draft stock so he didn't leave after the first half dozen games. It was like a knee jerk reaction to his surprise at losing Ennis and Grant a year earlier than he expected. That's kind of how I took it, and was pretty shocked when the kid turned pro, and wondered how much JB's demeanor in the press had to do with it.

Even TRs people must understand he will not get drafted in nba. G is slated to be a 2 nd round pick. Mal isnt slated to be drafted at all after this season or Tc obviously. Is there a euro or brazil or chinese draft? Lol
