Reno Ferri is new TEs coach

Anyone else try to decipher the recruiting board in the background? Aside from some baby pics and weird scribblings, a few recruits names show up on camera (would that be some sort of violation?)...
Collin Reed from South Carolina, now at App. St.
Wyatt Cook from Maryland, now at Purdue (unless booted due to alcohol-related issue in the fall)
Ron'Dell Carter from Maryland, at Rutgers
Zac Morton from Maryland, at Maryland
Walter Fletcher from Maryland, at Edinboro

The names don't matter much because the "Elite Juniors" are class of 2015 and currently in college, but it gives an idea of where he has contacts, which was mostly local for Towson. Glass half full says he has an eye for talent, as most of the players are at P5 schools. Half empty notes that he didn't successfully recruit any of them. But, we don't know their stories and Towson isn't exactly a destination school.

Ash just met with all of the top coaches in New Jersey. But the days of us having a stronghold in Jersey are over. Pasqualoni and DeLeone used to know the names of just about every coach in Jersey. That will never happen again.

BTW, DeLeone was just dismissed as OL coach by the Cleveland Browns. Jeez, he's older than me!

And P&D did get fired, so perhaps their lack of success in NJ or reliance elsewhere wasn't a good thing.

It was pretty damn good for about 12 years.

We'd do cartwheels if Babers can achieve anything close.

agreed. I only meant to say that those few names were reminiscent of the downturn in recruiting that state that hurt us badly. The glory days of the 90's saw great talent from that state, as we all know.

Its real simple. NJ is one of the best states for recruits. Its not over rated. Jersey generally produces good tough players. Thats why all these schools go their to recruit. Louisiana and Jersey are the best states based on size. Here's the thing, we are not going to get the best players out of that state until we win and show a productive scheme. if we become consistently a 8-4 team, that will atleast keep jersey kids away from Rutgers and Penn st. Now Ohio st and Michigan is a different story.

West Point is 5 years IIRC...however, you can go to the reserves and rework the nums some.

Also, you can sometimes leave earlier if you are in an over-manned career field...it drives me nuts with the personnel decisions made by the military (early outs, bonuses, money to reenter, etc...in a big sine wave)
As a retired officer, I do NOT like that he didn't fulfill his commitment unless he developed a physically disqualifying condition. He looks pretty healthy to me.

He might of left active duty early but fulfilled his commitment in the Reserves...if I see him at the Seneca Falls Golf Tourney I'll ask.

NJ ranks 10th for NFL players and per capita it would have to be towards the bottom.

they lost nj because su did not invest in the program when everyone else did ---including rutgers
absolutely a big reason. They were definitely fighting an uphill battle. Still makes me angry that happened. Especially considering at one point Buzz was a finalist for the NCAA gig, yet, wasn't interested in putting money back into the AD at his own school. Ironic.

and lots of "Jersey" kids are really from PA, NY, and CT
politely i say bs

not sure what that means but if u are implying that he did not fulfill his obligation then i would agree

JerseyOrange said years ago that a big part of it was that under pasqualoni the program had become stagnant and stale. Not from a facilities standpoint although that contributed.

The catholic schools 'recruit' kids from out of the area quite frequently. They house them with parishioners

I'm going to scream HEY DIAMOND!!! at the guy at the spring game until he turns and gives me the death stare.

I can only speak for Bergen County, where im from, but the catholic high schools (bergen, don bosco, st joes) are not affiliated with a certain parish, meaning that there are not parishioner for these kids to stay with. However this does happen where a kid will live with someone in the area, but for the most part these kids are from new jersey. For instance Brian Cushing and Greg Olson who are having successful NFL careers are both born and raised in NJ.

If Rutgers cared about football in the 80s and 90s the way they started caring about in the 00s, we never would have had that pipeline. Some of it with our shiny Dome, but not all of it. Not one of those talented kids ever considered Rutgers, probably didn't know they had a program.

All good things come to an end.

It wasn't just Rutgers caring about football. It was UConn deciding to upgrade, Pitt moving to Heinz Field and several other schools taking the sport a little more seriously.
