Report: Gonzaga coach Mark Few cited in Idaho for driving under the influence

In my younger days, I was certainly no angel when it came to drinking and driving, but I was never pulled over or involved in an incident/accident. Back then, DUI was not the public issue it is today, even though i lost four friends in accidents where drinking was clearly involved.

Today, when DUI is such a prominent issue, I cannot understand why a public figure (or anyone for that matter) gets behind the wheel while clearly under the influence. If you don't have a designated driver or someone to call, use Uber. Many restaurants and clubs now publicize their desire to call Uber if someone has a need for it.

Too bad. He seemed like a solid guy. But his blood alcohol content was measured at .120 at 8 p.m. - way over the legal limit of .08. So he was extremely drunk at a relatively early hour.

You answered your own question, most people do things they wouldn’t normally do when they are under the influence.

Alcohol makes people of all ages do stupid things
I've done some really dumb things while drunk like post goofy predictions on.here. I never once got behind the wheel.

If you think there aren’t thousands of people over 50 drinking and driving everyday I don’t know what to tell ya.
I never said there wasn't. You cant blame the alcohol. It's mostly arrogance thinking I can't get caught im not going that far etc.

The legal or bad publicity consequences have no impact on my decision never to drink and drive. It was a very unfortunate incident when I was 18 that changed me in this regard.

At 18, we had a favourite teacher who would we often see at the pubs across the Quebec border (where we could legally drink). We thought he was great. Until one Sunday morning we found out that he killed himself driving drunk the night before... and took out a family of 4 with him as he hit them head on.

I remember going to a ceremony and funeral to honour what was a great teacher and a very charitable person. But during those ceremonies I was left with a guilty feeling -- no matter how great this guy was most of the time he killed a family of 4 -- I did not feel right celebrating his life.

.12 is not extremely drunk. It is considerably over the legal limit for driving. They are not the same thing. There are lots of people out there who could be at .12 and you wouldn't have a clue.

It’s going to be interesting to see how the University handles this. It’s a fireable offense. I’m sure there will be some kind of intervention and community service.

True - some people might go unnoticed at .12. But not Few. According to the article, "Police received a report that Few was driving erratically and speeding. Upon pulling Few over, police said he exhibited several signs of intoxication" You could say he was Gonzaga. :)

I can never understand how someone making millions of dollars can't hire a driver or call an uber.

If you are cheap and into drinking you can always just give your keys to the bartender and sleep in your ride without any worries of getting hassled. Then can drink until your heart is content. I have a huge navigator thats as comfortable as a hotel for me and a couple others.
