Report: Gonzaga coach Mark Few cited in Idaho for driving under the influence

Yeah .. go start a thread about that somewhere else .. this is a pile on thread for what a complete joke of a punishment missing the vaunted Dixie State game is.

im sure you will find many drunk allies on your mission to equate drunk driving with other lesser transgressions . God speed on your venture
One those guys I’m talking about huh?
Put the phone down Chief!

Was it one time event? Not likely.
Does he have a problem with alcohol?
Is he going through a rough time?
In NY, and I am sure other states are similar, he will need an alcohol evaluation. Assuming they say he needs treatment of some kind (why would the counselor say no, it’s many sessions at their rate), he will have to do counseling until clinically discharged.
IN NY, his license would be suspended upon arraignment.
He could apply for a vey limited conditional license until the conclusion of the case, then do some DMV sessions, pay a large fine and court surcharge (not large for a guy like Few, I understand) and have a conditional one for a year, I think. Long time since I did that kind of work.

Wow. There could definitely be some “Coach get your hands out of your pockets!” signs this year.
He remembered to ask for a lawyer but forgot to keep his hands out of his pockets and keep his mouth shut. I guess that is what happens when you are impaired.

I meannnn after that video it’s pretty crazy he’s only suspended a couple games…that’s a real bad look for Few and Gonzaga. Ouch
Agreed - if this video starts getting more traction, they may be forced to increase the suspension. He is clearly drunk, and was very obstinate. The officer was actually very measured and patient

I know everyone loves Mark Few, from fellow coaches to former players to reporters, but he comes across an incredibly arrogant. I guess not surprising for a high level D1 football or basketball coach.

i could see some music being played. I fought the law and the law won

Hat on backwards for a non-catcher is rarely a good sign.

Cop made him turn it backwards.

This video is a whole bunch of nothing. The DUI is bad, this is just a guy realizing he somewhat hosed and trying to deal with it (while impaired, no less). Again, clearly a guy who is used to being in control of all his situations, who is taking a while to realize he is completely out of control of this one.

And he should pay a penalty for his mistake. Not just a token slap on the wrist.

If he got ticketed for texting and driving would we still be saying this punishment is too light?
Just curious as to why we don’t have the same outrage for the million of distracted drivers everyday in this country.
You're absolutely right. Distracted driving is a chronic problem (along with drunk driving) and I wish they could come up with some type of technology to disable phones within arms reach of a driver with the exception of GPS.

I never take my phone out of my pocket once I get behind the wheel. If someone really needs to contact me they can call, I have Bluetooth. However, I'm not under 40 years old so my phone addition is non existent. ;)

I get the feeling this situation is not a first for Few. Hard to believe the first time he drove under the influence he got stopped.

Gonzaga has been my second favourite program (fair way down from Syracuse) for a while.

A big part of it is their legacy of Canadian players for a number of years. And of course the success they have had, even without a title, is pretty admirable.

But I am having a hard time cheering for them, at least this year. Don't want to see Few win a National Title this year, or even make the final.
