Report: McDonald to Gators

Took longer than I thought it would for him to split. Glad he's out of our conference at least.

So who is the Next Man Up?

It's gotta be a dynamic recruiter with FLA heavy connections
"Took longer than I thought". You raise an interesting question. Can a school poach another school's coach during the season?

Lets hope that he doesnt drag along Eric White with him. Losing GMac, I can deal with. Losing Eric White would sting.

This could happen for sure but it'll be a decision made by the Head Coach - whomever MacDonald's new boss is. But even so, while White seems to be a special kid, has GM type aspirations, there has to be a lot of other kids out there in sports management etc who could fill the role. Cole Dial has been pretty involved to.

Several former SU guys coaching HS in recruiting hot beds. Rodney Wells has been the head coach at Orlando's Dr Phillips for some time now. I'd imagine any of these guys could make a splash.

Shoot they could hire Jeff Bertani - lol

how so? Can someone explain what he does that is indispensable? I ask b/c I legitimately don't know what he does that makes him unique in recruiting world.

The wr coach position is one where there

what's interesting about it?

Of all the pictures Acosta could have posted it is one with Ishmael in it. If McDonald leaves what would prevent Acosta from taking over the WRs?

Well, for one thing, he's very close with Robert Washington.

So this is or isn't true? Reports are mixed

Got it. Acosta could take over WR's for sure. Might be a good move, and this could get Adam over to TE's and get a veteran OL coach in here.

I was curious when the picture was from. And who the player is behind Acosta.

I say make him Asst. HC, get him a little more money, hope he stays a little while.

I think Eric White is at such a high position (for his age) that it would be pretty hard to bump him up, in position, at a place like Florida (or wherever McD does/doesn't end up).

After his initial outburst, I think McD handled himself pretty well. Sorry to see him go (if he does).

Agreed. Seems as though Cole Dial has been groomed to be EW's successor if/when he eventually moves on to greener pastures.

He's basically the first line of contact (I think). Every recruit knows him. He's really, really good with families and social networking.

These all skills you'd think a lot of young guys would be good at. I just get the feeling he's one of the best.

Doesn't the AFCA convention start this week ? I would expect some announcements during or after that one.
It's next week in Louisville, Jan 11-14. Kind of odd to have it conflict with the championship game. I guess they'll have some viewing parties there.

yea but being the recruiting coordinator and florida is probably more attractive then being the recruiting coordinator at cuse.

But would Florida take on a recruiting coordinator as a stipulation for hiring a WR coach?

Randy Shannon is the recruiting coordinator at Florida. Tim Lester is the recruiting coordinator at Syracuse. Technically White is the Director of Recruiting Operations which is 'support staff'.

This is where wheels turn and the coaching carousel hits full speed. Alot of jobs are won and lost at the convention.

A local guy and Syracuse Alum, who now is on the Indianapolis Colts Coaching Staff, told me a couple years ago that if I ever wanted to break out into the profession that I needed to make the rounds anually at the conferences and conventions. Almost everybody I've met and continued a relationship with, outside of guys I played with, came from meeting one another at one of these functions.

Florida: The school has announced that offensive line coach Mike Summers will be retained. Other titles have also been announced: Greg Nord (tight ends / special teams coordinator), Randy Shannon (associate head coach / co-defensive coordinator / linebackers), Terrell Williams (defensive line) and Kirk Callahan (defensive backs). In addition, Colorado State head strength and conditioning coch Mike Kent will serve in the same role at UF. The wide receivers job is the remaining opening. Keep track of new FBS staffs here.
