I don't think anyone is saying Nova was the second coming of Ohio State last year but he's correct in that our offensive line couldn't move their undersized D line regardless of who was at QB or did you forget the need for a fake FG because we couldn't pound it in from the one with multiple chances. When your playing a 1AA team your O line should be able to allow a decent run game even if myself or cusetroop is taking snaps.

Go back and watch the end. False starts and bad play calling. We should have run it in.

That doesn't change the fact that against a 1AA team we had to resort to a fake FG in overtime to win at home. There were plenty of chances inside the 5 to punch it in and we couldn't do it. I know your a big fan of the current staff but there's no way to spin that game or performance it was an absolute disaster. Thank god Nova had a kicker who looked like he belonged in Pop Warner and that their playing calling on the 2pt conversion might have been the worst I have ever seen.

That's rich. Revisionist. We moved them and the ball enough to win. Our starting QB made a mistake and his replacement didn't do enough. Things that grow over time include Villanova's "dominance"...

Nova had more first downs, more passing yards, more rushing yards, and absolutely dominated time of possession (37:48 to 22:24).

How I feel about the staff is irrelevant. I think the post I responded to was over-exaggerating our troubles with them. The real issue was our inability to stop them on D. We had fine push. Most of that same line had pushed Minnesota around just a game before.

The offensive play calling, injuries, and no starting QB was the problem most of the season, IMO.

No where did I say we had a good day. I said our oline troubles as described above - were overstated.

I will accept that, but you are also the King of scolding fans for being too negative, when they are not being negative, its just you missed the fun and point.
fixed.

I only watched the game once, but I remember leaving the dome feeling most disappointed in the performance of the offensive line. The offense did move the ball throughout the game, but the line did not get the push one would hope for when playing a supposedly inferior team.

If anything based on those stats the troubles were understated. Again multiple chances inside the 5 and even the 1 to run it in we couldn't and had to settle for a fake FG. I would categorize that has a lot of trouble.

Lets punch URI in the crotch.

I guess we all have different reasons for coming here. Some want critical discussion of the team, others just want to "ra ra ra!" Either approach is fine. There are plenty of people to talk to regardless of one's approach. My personal approach is to be "ra ra" while tailgating and at the game. On here I attempt to discuss the team objectively.

That's an appreciated sentiment. Not everything is so black and white though. There's time for objective conversation, and there's THROTTLE time!!!

i like that.

but lets face it, stating...and to quote the late, great Herb Brooks...'we dont have enough talent, to win on talent alone', does not make one negative.

Yes, in fact, that statement is being negative. Especially when placed in a thread about an FCS opponent. Pre-season hasn't even started, much less than the actual season. No one knows how much talent the team has at this point. Any statement otherwise is just opinion.

These would be examples of fact.

Fact: Fans haven't seen any SU players on a field in an organized manner since spring ball.
Fact: A majority of players improve year over year.
Fact: There are quite a few new players.
Fact: We have no idea what new players will bring to the team.
Fact: A whole lot of people on this board complain about SU Football way more than they champion SU Football.

Yet again...

How sad. Pretty much done here for awhile which, I'm sure, will please a few. I can only stomach the "wife beating" for so long.

If they beg you to stay, will you?

Ill be happy with any win, but obviously I'll feel very good if we win by 28+.

Your audience is a community full of people whom already love Syracuse sports. Why is it necessary to champion SU football to them? Champion SU football to outsiders.

Oh, really? How do you figure they love Syracuse sports?

Do they do that by saying the coaches should be fired? Does that show they love SU sports?
Do they do that by complaining that the team isn't talented enough? Does that show they love SU sports?
Do they show that by denigrating student athletes who put their entire lives into improving themselves so they can become better players? Does that show they love SU Sports?

I understand that winning seasons have been few and far between in the last 15 years. And it is understandable to become frustrated as a result. It would even be understandable if they said they had enough and they were done with being a fan. But, it would be disingenuous to regularly & continually make statements along those lines, and still consider themselves a fan.

a fan is by definition a person who is enthusiastically devoted to Syracuse sports.

All of you on this board can feel free to feel superior to me, or tear this post apart, but what you really need to think about, is how often do you post something positive? How often do you post something negative? If a majority of your posts are of a negative nature, you are not by definition, a fan. You are a troll. Maybe you have become too emotionally involved and you really need to just step away.

This is just before practice starts. It should be the point where hope and faith are highest. I don't see it, and honestly, that is such a sad commentary on the state of this board!

I used to really enjoy this board, but I have to say that I understand why so many people have started stepping away from this particular board.
