i get humiliating a guy by making him dress up, or carrying your luggage, equipment bags, or having them pick up some tabs occasionally. But it can be taken too far. A lot of these rookies will play less than 3 years, and have nothing to fall back on. Yet these guys are treating them like ATM's.

Didnt Dez Bryant stand up to this BS last year? I recall a story that he refused to be hazed during his rookie campaign.

Done correctly and what has been done for years it's fine and within reason, taken too far by some arsehole then it's a problem, just like anything else in life. You hit the nail on the head. I'm a Dolphins fan, and I can't stand this guy. He's been in trouble every step along the way, and seems really volatile. Even his overzealous reaction via twitter came across like bullying.

Guy is a grade A dbag.

Being in the financial planning/asset management world, this makes me sick to my stomach. I get hazing and all of that, but negatively impacting one's finances is messed up.

I never understood the purpose of hazing, and don't really understand how it builds anything productive. I feel like there are infinitely better ways to build trust, camaraderie, respect amongst a peer group than humiliating each other.

I follow some pro athletes on Twitter and they post pics all the time hazing rookies, doing all that i described above. I "get it" when its harmful fun, but making a guy pay you 15k to go on a trip hes not even going on, with guys he doesnt even like? Rediculous.

Here is a story from 2010 about Bryant telling Roy Williams to off when it came to hazing. However, he did get stuck with a 54k dinner tab. Mind you, Bryant, signed for 8.5M guaranteed. Much different than making a rookie with league min and no promise of a long career cover a 30k tab

The whole idea of hazing in frats or sports is so ridiculous. My college lacrosse "hazing" didn't make me stronger or tighter with my teammates. It made me spend the next 3 years of my life wishing every day for a group of guys to die in a fiery car crash. hahaha. (only half kidding)

Any man who brings this kind of drama to a team with plaguing offensive line difficulties should be cut from the team and have his rep tarnished.
