Richie Incognito suspended by team for bullying

Any man who brings this kind of drama to a team with plaguing offensive line difficulties should be cut from the team and have his rep tarnished.

This may send the Phins back another year or 2. inn great.

Why am I an Orange and Phins fan...god damnit.

The OL is in shambles. Clabo and McKinnie are total stop gap. I was hoping that Martin would emerge as at least an average LT, but it doesn't appear to be in the cards, skill wise. And with this recent crap, he's probably a lost cause which is unfortunate.

Really need to bolster the OL this offseason. I agree with you that Tannehill could prove to be upper echelon [not going to say top 5 or anything, but he seems to have difference making capabilities at QB], but he's getting killed this year and has lapsed into some bad habits having to run for his life to avoid taking a beating. I was excited about them taking Dion Jordan, but in retrospect they might have needed to target at OT instead with last year's first round pick.

Maybe Dallas Thomas can be a servicable guard. I assume that he will shift into that spot vacated by Incognito. But they definitely need to make upgrading the OL a concerted focus this offseason.

The whole idea of hazing in frats or sports is so ridiculous. My college lacrosse "hazing" didn't make me stronger or tighter with my teammates. It made me spend the next 3 years of my life wishing every day for a group of guys to die in a fiery car crash. hahaha. (only half exaggerating) :)

In tennis in high school and college the closest thing we ever got to hazing was freshmen had to pick up the balls, but even that ended after a few weeks once everyone got to know each other.

As far as fraternities, being hazed can be fun (the funnest thing you never want to do again) and it can build bonds with your pledge class that is different (not deeper or stronger, just different) than with other friends. But I still have a deep resentment after almost seventeen years for one guy in my fraternity who went overboard with the hazing. So I can see the other side as well.

1: Richie Incognito left this VM for Jonathan Martin in April 2013: "Hey, wassup, you half n----- piece of (expletive)...

2. More Incognito to Martin: "I saw you on Twitter, you been training ten weeks. (I want to) (expletive) in your (expl) mouth...

3. Incognito VM to Martin: "(I'm going to) slap your (expletive) mouth. (I'm going to) slap your real mother across the face (laughter).

4. Incognito to Martin, all on same VM in April 2013: "(Expletive) you, you're still a rookie. I'll kill you."

NFL has heard Richie Incognito's VM to Jonathan Martin. Dolphins have heard the voice mail.[/URL]

The marines and the Spartans from 300 would disagree :)

Hazing sucks. But it works and it's been proven in various studies. And just because it works, doesn't mean that it's right.

I never understood the purpose of hazing, and don't really understand how it builds anything productive. I feel like there are infinitely better ways to build trust, camaraderie, respect amongst a peer group than humiliating each other.

Good god...

What an absolute moron.

Martin, Pouncey, Incognito and Clabo

Really? I'd be interested in seeing evidence of that. Do you have specific studies in mind?

Not being sarcastic, I'm actually really curious.

I still cannot eat olives. I can say no more.

Now the Riley Cooper precedent is going to be instructive.

I feel like the N-word takes this to an entirely new level of horribleness.

This reminds me of something I saw on the espn comment section: "Death threats, threats to mothers and defecating in people's mouths might slide in the NFL... the "N" word on the other hand..."

So change up your google search. Maybe "cognitive dissonance hazing". I searched "study shows hazing works" and linked the first story that popped up.

There's a proven psychology to hazing and there are plenty of studies. If you're interested, it shouldn't be that hard to learn more.

A search like "does hazing work" is going to be inundated with links to collegiate anti-hazing efforts. And there's a reason why anti-hazing is needed... Cause people are stupid and people have lost their lives during hazing activities.

So... that was released in 1997 and was never published. A quick googlescholar search on "does hazing work" doesn't look all that promising.

Sweet. I'm going to change my performance management style with my staff. I think they'll be much more productive when I make them suck down as much easy cheese as they can possibly ingest because they didn't make their deliverables.

The point is, no matter how long it has been going on ..and no matter how "effective" (or ineffective) it is in developing "brotherhood" a person with a job should be able to go to work without having to deal with harassment. Would this type of behavior be acceptable in your place of work? The NFL is first and foremost a business. To expect and allow this type of behavior from its employees (players) is not only bad for those who are victimized, but it actually is an insult to everyone in the league as they are basically told "look, we cant expect you animals to behave like normal humans..we get you are here for your animal like powers"

I'm really not trying to be a tool here, but the burden isn't on me to do that. You said it's proven. The thing you linked wasn't a great resource to make that case. So, I did some investigating on my own, and it didn't look promising.
