Rickie Collins

Do you all not think that the coach who did that onside kick in the 1st Q does not have his QB race open each week? If he really sees something that will work better, than he will make a switch. For now it is Collins, but if he sees something in Carney, he will not hesitate to make the switch. But you have to give Collins the chance to work with the first string in practice and do everything to bring him up to speed. After all, the race was between Angeli and Collins, not Angeli and Carney for a reason.

I’d guess we start to see a much different offense. Heavier on the run, more RPO, getting Rickie in space and more 1 read looks
I completely agree with this. I suspect RPO, roll him out and shorter passes.
I do hope his accuracy issue was because being thrown in. Two of his passes could have been picked but great effort by our wr turning into DBs.
The only concern about the RPO is I know it affected our run game last year.

How do you know he’s not ready? I’d rather have a baller than go with the safe choice because he’s older. I hope it works out too but we may need Carney
Rickie has a super high ceiling? I just don’t understand why everyone is so against Rickie 😂😂😂 .

Duke gives up a lot of points, and we're at home. We'll need to play well but this is about as good a circumstance on the schedule to hand the ball over to Collins to right from kickoff.

I won't be shocked if Carney sees some snaps.
So it will be an interesting week of practice. For the coaches on the board, our #2 is now #1 and #3 is now #2. How will practice reps work. Three plays for Collins and then Carney takes a few with the first team? Keep alternating with primary reps for Collins but working Carney in? I would think Carney would get a good dose of gameplan prep and snaps with the ones right? Just to get some timing down and comfort with our center and some reads?

I have a sneaky good feeling about Ricky.
People forget just how good Nixon is… Angeli is really good, but having him this quickly top in CFB shows the ability of Nixon.

If the defense can improve like it did today long term then it should be a manageable trade off. But everything remains to be seen.

I worry about Collins' accuracy.

He had that big baseball pitcher looking wind up, which helps him have great velocity, but has so many moving parts that he seems inconsistent.

There's a reason pitchers in baseball spend a lot of effort practicing to repeat their delivery exactly the same way every time. It's hard enough to do on the mound, and baseball pitchers are never asked to throw on the run or get tackled.

I hope he can settle in and keep his mechanics in order. In the game thread, posters suggested two drops occurred (at least possibly) because of Collins increased velocity compared to Angeli in the same throws... If that's true, 5/8 looks a lot better than 3/8 when it comes to accuracy.

It also means a week of practice can fix any rhythm or communication issues that came from replacing the QB mid series.

I hope Ricky takes the job and runs with it but he's not at LSU and lost out to Angeli here for a reason. Carney can sling it has a much bigger arm and SU wants to throw a lot. It's not a big leap.
There is a big difference between slinging it in HS...and slinging it in college. Ricky was more highly regarded coming out of HS than Carney based on rankings. If Carney shows he is better than Ricky at leading the Cuse, then I am all for it...Like Fran, I just want to win.

I hope they don’t change the offense just because Collins is taking over. Our best playmakers are our receivers. We need to be able to get it to them.

I don't think they will. They still kept throwing late in the 4th with Rickie in there, no reason to get super conservative next game if they weren't going to up 20 in the 4th.
