Rickie Collins

But now that he's not killing it, people ARE getting personal on the players. I can understand boos in the Dome out of frustration. But people saying that he gets paid now so I can say what I want about him is a bit sad.

I'm sure he feels bad enough letting his team down, before having to go on social media and see the hate.

I don’t blame Rickie for any of this, Rickie is taking the brunt of it but it’s really not his fault. I blame Fran 100%. He owns it. It’s overpromising and underdelivering 101. You can’t be a serious program and only have 1 capable player at the most important position on the depth chart. And I don’t mean by capable Angeli 1 and Angeli 1A. I mean a second guy that can game manage and not lose us games.

If Rickie isn’t capable of at least being that guy, then he shouldn’t have been here to begin with. And if it was a bad sale of goods (say Rickie oversold himself or whatever), then that should have been detected early and every effort to get Luke Carney in position to be that guy should have been made. This looks like romper room right now.

Remember when some of us were worried about losing Jakari Williams? What’s going on there?

Fran said something like “boo me, not Rickie.” That’s essentially what was happening. Most fans are booing the fact that the coach is not trying another quarterback and the same thing keeps happening.

Please start Carney next week, our offense is unwatchable. Best defensive effort we have had since Fran got here and we pissed it away with a dumpster fire QB looking just as hideous as he did the last two weeks. One TD until garbage time and that TD was an 11 yard drive
Carney looked like he would be little in a pee wee football game he didn’t look more than 5’ 8” a buck 50. He looked like he’d get killed out there if he played more than a few series

I agree that HCFB is responsible. However, before beating him down for not having two stellar QBs in the fold please recall that:

1) he has had only one full recruiting season and 1/2 of another.
2) he has found gems.
3) Angeli's injury is nobody's fault.
4) he is working with what was left over. JW was the best QB in the fold when HCFB came aboard. The others received the talk. JW is our 4th string QB.
5) Syracuse does not have the extensive budget other schools have. HCFB must work with some constraints.

The balancing act is new to all of college sports, HCFB is ahead of most and making the most of what he has. Yes, his evaluation of RC was wrong. Most of his recruits are panning out, with many starting and getting playing time.

We will get a new QB and Angeli presumably returns in the fall. The world is not at an end.

Yea idiots say stuff on Twitter. They've been doing it for years, but there was literally nobody rooting for Rickie to fail, he failed and people are idiots, but I stand by no one rooted for failure so they could say stupid stuff online.

Not romper room.

Fran hit on McCord. In a huge way that got national attention.

Fran hit on Angeli.

Fran missed on Collins.

He's 2 out of 3. As Meatloaf said, it ain't bad.

PS: Ohio State/Notre Dame/LSU. If Fran gets run out of town, we go back to getting QBs from lesser places.

The guy is making 500k and going to get a college degree at Syracuse University, being a quarterback anywhere puts you to face these kinds of criticism…
Unfortunately whether good, bad or indifferent. Perhaps I was a bit harsh myself but the reality is this isn’t ten years ago, kids are now doing this for a living in college and everyone knows that. Just like we are critiqued at our jobs and reviewed quarterly it will be the same for them. Happy kids can make that kind of money

No one is expecting two stellar QBs. We just want/need a semi functional QB2. The fact that we did not have that last year, do not have that this year, and may not have that next year should be on Fran.

He had a crap QB room last year behind McCord. Not all Fran's fault as he wasn't left with much. Thank goodness we had an outlier season and kept QB1 healthy the entire year.

But knowing you have a bare cupboard, he needed to bring in a HS kid who could be QB2 for this season and failed to get a Top 100 QB.

For now he has failed to bring in a Top 75 HS kid for next season.

Fran has been great recruiting overall but his QB plan has stunk. Either he naively doesn't think we need a decent QB2, or he has failed to get who he has targeted. Either way it needs to change ASAP.

I get the frustration, I am there with you. SU does not have the major investment for supporters that other schools have.

Also, SU plays within their budget. SU usually runs the AD in the black. We are watching 16 or 18 B1G scream for a cash infusion because they are mismanaging funds. Which type of school do want to be affiliated with?

So far as the Collins situation, I gotta wonder about the QB coaching.
Collins comes to SU(2025 season) in his 3rd college year.
He shows up in January. He becomes QB1. OC Nixon and QB Nunz school him.
It's not like Collins is right out of high school and is an early enrollee.
Yet this guy stares down receivers...is inaccurate throwing...comes off a bye-week and throws 3 picks
in the first half.
Not enough DART to go around here....

I agree that we don't have the investors - so I guess it comes down to what are we doing investing at all in the crazy world of sports? It is not going to get cheaper - but that is a conversation for another day.

PITT replaced their high priced NIL QB with a true Frosh who was pedestrian at best Saturday night. Yet they haven't fallen apart because of their scheme and ability to have the talent around the young QB ease his burden. That is the coaches job especially in the modern NIL world. In my opinion we appear to be failing at that.

I wonder how Rickie felt when he was being booed? That was crazy.
I think it’s the interceptions and they’ve been bad and a lot that look like they could be interceptions but weren’t.

That’s hard not to put on Rickie. He’ll prob hear the boos if he eats a sack or throws it away but at least then you don’t set up the rest of the team in a mess on defense. It’s on the coaches for calling the play and especially the OL too but still.

I feel like especially early on in games throwing an early bad pick just is terrible for for giving the other team momentum.

I've mostly kept my keyboard quiet and will continue to do so. However, most of y'all just need to simmer down. This season sucks. It happens. As a matter of fact, it happens almost every single time we lose our starting QB. Weird right? Shafer couldn't win with Mahoney, Babers couldn't win with Del Rio, etc. For those saying well they should have a backup plan...good luck in today's NIL market because if you get a capable backup they gone. Fran saw the issues at QB and brought in Angeli, did you think he was going to bring in two Angeli's? This has probably already been said in this 68 page thread but I'm not reading all of that. I read the past couple pages, it's what I expected.

For those saying they can be criticized like we do in performance reviews...tell me another time your boss said you're awful, have no skills, and boo'd you out of the office. Paid or not, these are kids. Money didn't suddenly make them more 'adult'. We still have decent chances for wins against NC/BC. And because it's college football and anything can happen, maybe we pull a rabbit out of the hat for one of the ranked teams over looking us. Bowl chances are slim, but what an accomplishment after losing Angeli if we get there.

Based on the two series he played, Carney just didn't seem to have that "it" factor. Let's stick with Rickie the rest of the way and hope for the best.

Why stick with Rickie? Why does Carney have to have the it factor to play but Collins does not require it?

1st Q 54.2% 111 yards 1 TD 3 INTs 81.77 rating
2nd Q 57.6% 194 yards 0 TD 1 INT 100.9 rating (arguably his best Q)
3rd Q 44.4% 83 yards 1 TD 1 INT 90.39 rating
4th Q 53.8% 345 yards 3 TD 3 INT 117.08 rating

He isn't good at any point and his best stats are in garbage time. And those aren't even that good.

Carney had positive yards in every play. That is all we need.

So fans want big time football at Syracuse but are going to get all bent out of shape about booing? Given the lack of success this program has had in the last 25 years Im happy folks still care. Same for some fans accepting some kind of write off for the season just because Angeli went down. With the NIL money being spent and the salaries the staff is drawing there needs to continue to be accountability and pushing for improvement, no writing off of seasons half way through.
