Rickie Collins

too early to tell, not enough data points/time or reps in there. Guarantee he'll get more run the rest of the way that'll determine if he's ready
He is going to get more run that has been decided. How much he gets will depend on his ability to run more of the offense and the team we are playing. I expect him to see the field against GT and play more against NC.

yep, no doubt and no brainer. This stuff aint rocket surgery or brain science.....😊🙂🙃😉

Not one person on here has openly rooted against Rickie. On the garbage dump that is social media? Probably. But this seems like such a strawman on here and probably a lot of cope to somehow explain away his poor performance thus far. Everyone hopes he kills it against GT.

Yall act like boo-ing is sooo emotionally deep, it’s literally sports that is what happens everywhere when your qb well essentially has played terrible and the coach keeps putting him in… what a shock.

I thought Syracuse fans did make a message on Saturday and when I heard it on TV (if I was local I would be there), the message I heard, with the words of our amazing coach that I’m still 100% behind. “We ain’t no B*tch”. We want to see good winning football. Now if you were booing and don’t show up again, the jokes on you. If you don’t like the product, leave graciously, there is nothing on the ticket that says you are guaranteed to see a great football game with a Syracuse win. If you want a good product and display your displeasure with it, not showing up when you can will only hurt the product long term.

Eh, other way around, it's shallow. "I don't like this so I complain." Babies can do that.

But whatever; while I think it's misplaced going after Rickie, anybody who's seen me boo ACC refs know it's not a hill I'm willing to die on.

Doubt that.

Wrong again. They haven’t fully prepared Carney fully to run the offense. That’s the driving factor that led them to put Collins back in. It would be coaching malpractice to have him run specific plays for the first time in a game. It’s a perhaps subtle, but distinct difference regarding the trust factor.

“The call sheet that we had set for him wasn’t really meant for 3rd-and-9,” Brown said.

Brown was then asked how much of the offense Carney can run right now.

“Not much,” he said. “We’re in the developmental point of it when it comes to the young quarterbacks and the things of that nature. There’s a lot that we’re trying to do and trying to get rolling, and we’ll get it back. It’ll work. it takes time.”
I’m sorry. Isn’t Luke Carney the second string QB? Why is he not prepared for all aspects if the offense?? He IS one play away from being the starting QB. I’m amazed at the answers people Will accept from coaches.

Axe asked Fran how much of the offense Carney knows. “Not much” Fran said. Axe said he appreciated Fran’s honesty. To me the take away isn’t how honest Fran is. It’s why does your back up QB not know a lot of the playbook!!

Two weeks ago Axe also said he asked Nixon how ready was Carney to play and Nixon replied he was good to go. Said he had a good grasp of the playbook. It’s all there on his podcast.

If Luke Carney has to play because Rickie is hurt I’m quite sure he could be faced with a third and nine at some point in the game. Most likely the third play of the first series of the game.

Let’s cut the crap and at least admit that there is something seriously wrong with a lot of what were being told.

Also does anyone else think there is a good chance Collins might not be back next year? If so why keep playing him and not Carney who probably will be back next year. Unless he gets pissed and leaves for the portal.

If Angeli comes back healthy next year but gets hurt again let’s hope we’ve got someone ready to step in and be serviceable. Hate to have another season wrecked by this nonsense.

Rickie reminds me of Lindsay Scott. Got a last minute LSU offer(Louisiana kid like Rickie) and had to drop down a level to see success. Nothing wrong with that, some kids aren't able to play at this level.

Of course, Lindsay had also been in college since the Sixties before he finally broke out.

Those 37 years of college ball really paid off for him.

Plus - once he graduated he was immediately eligible for Social Security and Medicare.

I know none of this maths. Just go with it.

The staff also said the two QBs were neck and neck in the summer.

I think it’s safe to say that it’s best to adhere to the “coaches say things” philosophy and not take anything these guys say at face value.

Wasn't he only booed when he came in after Carney? In which case is that not more on the decision to put him in than actually him? How exactly does one boo Fran for that move otherwise?
It was the same nonsense in 1999 where a coach is obviously being booed for weird QB rotations

I think this might be what’s driving the Ricky Collins qb1 crap. I’m speculating that Fran stuck his neck out to bring Collins in and doesn’t want to admit he was wrong the the check writers. We all thought originally he was a high priced backup, now we know he should be a high priced bench warmer
who knows what the dynamic on the team is with one guy having so much more money undeservedly

The are similarities with this O and group of WRs and the 2016 team. Ignoring the 61 point Pitt game as an outlier, the other 2 games that Mahoney started we scored 17 ppg. With one of those games being against a team that finished 8th in the polls.

Heck halfway through the 3rd Q we trailed NC State 21-20 and it was still 28-20 until halfway through the 4th Q.

What we are getting out of our O these last three games is unacceptable. Even with the garbage time passing we are getting only 211.7 yards per game in the air.

Edit
To make things worse we are getting 211.7 passing ypg against teams that give up:

Duke 268.2
SMU 328.0
Pitt 224.3

My son's HS team played a Top 20 team in state last Friday. I ask him how their film looked Wednesday before the game. He says, "Dad, they play much faster than us."

What do I say? Telling him "Go faster" only invites mental mistakes. Instead, I went with "Trust yourself. Don't be too cautious," knowing the only way to adjust is to experience "they play faster."

I'd give Rickie the same advice. If processing game speed is the issue, I get why he's still out there. How do you help a player adjust to a faster game other than experiencing it?

I admit this is all tough to watch now. He's not been good. But I also believe Rickie can get better. It'll be a lot easier for us if Rickie can be a solid #2 next year vs. finding a backup in the spring ball portal.
The problem is Ricky has been in college three years. He has been in P4 programs three years. He sees the speed of the game in practice all the time. I know it’s a little different but he is playing against elite players in practice. I do remember hearing in spring he was interception prone. Maybe a reason they went and got Angeli. Continues now he is a starter.
