Rickie Collins

I have no doubt when staff saw what they had in the spring they made a phone call to NJ and said here is our money offer and the starting spot is his.

Yep, and pray he doesn't get hurt... lost that bet obviously, but we know QB injuries well here.

Because he is a kid and Fran is protecting him as he should be doing.
How is that protecting him exactly? Seems like it sets him up for failure. Of course, it seems like the coaches are setting him up for failure week in and week out anyway by trying to get him to make plays that McCord/Angeli can make. So very nice...

Fran as the head coach has to protect his players in a press conference, part of the job.
If he came out and said a player stinks, he would lose the team.
But after the past 3 games if Rickie doesn't dramatically improve, he has to go with another QB or he will lose the team.

Im not saying just the journalists, im talking in general. The coaches and the admin are just as guilty. We aren't all football coaches, but I dont think it takes Bear Bryant to see that Rickie doesn't have the skill or football IQ to lead a football team.
Yeah I dont listen to them either

I agree he has to protect him but he could have said what he did in the post game press conference versus what he said on Monday.
When asked if Ricky was the qb after the game he said we have see who does better in practice this week. On Monday he doubled down with Ricky that the team has the best chance with Ricky.
Better to say their both are learning and we will play who ever gives us the chance to win after a week of practice.

Of course, Lindsay had also been in college since the Sixties before he finally broke out.

Those 37 years of college ball really paid off for him.

Plus - once he graduated he was immediately eligible for Social Security and Medicare.

I know none of this maths. Just go with it.
This joke never gets old. Very much like Lindsay Scott. As a matter of fact, I heard that upon graduating after 37 years of college, he joined the military and immediately became a 4 star general.

since when ?

Rickie seems to me like someone who has never received proper coaching at any point in his career. Most notably related to proper footwork. Way too many throws off the back foot and not nearly enough stepping up strong in the pocket.

Agreed. He probably was stellar at every level on the way to P4 conference level, naturally more talented than most others. At the P4 level the competition is as good or better than him across the board. The lack of proper coaching along the way shows.

He’s largely excelled off arm talent and you can get away with that at the HS level. Watch his HS film vs Luke Carney - it’s a pretty noticeable difference.

Is his better weapon his arm or his legs? You tell me.

Rickie's per game rating on ESPN: 179 (Colgate), 114.5 (Clemson), 111.4 (Duke), 95 (SMU), and 84.5 (Pitt). I am no statistician, but it sure looks like he is getting worse each game... which makes sense as there is more and more tape on him.

Rickie has 99 yards rushing the past two games (19 carries). Willis has 57 (28 carries). Nixon has 19 (12 carries). I get that some of this is taking advantage of the prevent. But at the same time we need to move the chains and he is an interception machine.

We have less than 5 WR runs this season that I can count. It might be 3 or 4. If we cannot pass them the ball... maybe we need to let them run it 2-3 times a game (not each... total). Is that any less effective than handing it to Willis to run into someone for a -2 to 3 yard gain? Why has this disappeared from our offense completely?

Hes not a kid though, he is 20, people are off fighting wars at his age. Its a hyperbolic statement but i think its important to remind people that whole "they're only kids" arguments goes out the door when they make more money than nuclear engineers.

I wish I could like this a thousand times! Money aside, the whole "kids" label when the FACT is that they are legal adults is asinine IMO. A young adult, which is what they truly are, isn't someone who is still under the full control of their parents, legal guardians, etc. as a 'kid' and/or child is.

Not sure condensing the defense on one side of the field makes it easier for Rickie.
I, uh... he already does that on his own.

I haven't actually watched film but I'm fairly confident every pass, or at least the heavy majority, of balls he's thrown down field have been to the left side of the field. A few down the middle, nothing or little to nothing to the right.

Don’t recommend rewatching the film. I did. And it only gets worse. It’s infuriating.

In watching him in practice it's apparent that he struggles with his reads. So regardless of roll or pocket I'd limit him to two reads followed by him running or throwing it away. Speed the game up for him by limiting his decision process.

Off the top of my head, in the Pitt game the TD pass and Yasin drop were both to the right. But to your point I can't remember any others.

Anyway, easy solution. We'll just make him throw with his left hand half the time.
