Rocky promotes his guys a lot. When the UT reported Arnett was a possibility it was a gentle way to break the news to Aztec fans. Rocky staying at SDSU to be the DC. Which is what we wanted because he’ll be here for 3-5 years and get our next DC ready for when he retires. Works out beautifully for both programs.

Rocky Long sounds like the type of guy who would definitely not come to Syracuse now because he wouldn’t want to interfere (or be seen as someone interfering) with a former assistant’s ability to succeed in his new job.

I don't think this hire happened this quickly. There is a good chance this is the hire Mark heard about a month ago. Could be the announcement was delayed until Long made his announcement about retirement.
