If there isn’t someone currently on staff, I wonder if they will look at Danny Gonzalez. He won’t be head coach at New Mexico much longer. He is a Rocky 3-3-5 disciple, he was Rocky’s DC at San Diego State for a season and then ran the 3-3-5 at Arizona State for a season after that

I don’t think so. But, it’s hard for me to imagine that he was hired without the perpetuation of his defense as part of the long term plan. He’s 72 or 73. It would be a terrible short term plan to not have talked that through.

Ironically, his story reads like that of Mick- the trainer for his namesake, Rocky Balboa.
Been around a long time, loads of experience and many funky tweaks in his defensive philosophy. A little long in the tooth but this is his first real chance to put it all on display in the P5.

I think he is the ideal transition. After losing to State he has to be a dead man walking. Hopefully Long is back one more season with Gonzales as a S coach. Then Gonzales takes over as DC in 2025, which allows Long to retire. But we might have competition from Arnett and even White. Then again there is a chance White comes home too for the same reason we got him in the first place, should Rhule want a more traditional D.

I don't think Long moves across the country to not coach 3-4 years. Probably don't have to worry about him being poached which is always going to be the case for successful coordinators at SU.

Our D isn't old and should keep getting better. I thought we'd be good but a little thin but I wouldn't really rule out our second stringers being better than most of us think.

What’s was most impressive about the D last night is how ruthless they were with forcing turnovers.. they were downright aggressive and nasty getting to the ball and making tackles.
4 turnovers, with the 1 pick and 3 fumble recoveries.
Forced 5 of them and both of those others should have went our way, especially the one on the pile which any objective person would have ruled Syracuse.

It’s insane that it was overturned and I think literally would have joined an angry mob of pitchforkers at the refs home if it maked or breaked the game for us…like it was really that absurd.

And it seems like all around the refs are having an all time season this far and I don’t believe for a second that it’s purely because of incompetence. Yes many refs are incompetent, but there is clearly more to the story that we as spectators are not in on.

But in any case I’m still going to watch…cuz this Rocky Long x Mob collab is looking SCARY and I’m here for it…
I would not want to match up with this D if I was an opposing team I’ll just say that.

And with Jason Beck calling the offense and Shrader balling out..I think it’s safe to say that WE BACK.
Let’s just stack some wins and stay healthy!

What I liked was the our DBs technique JW and Johnson both got beat once but then came back with great tackling and great hands. Marlowe Wax is playing like an All American, he's a problem!

Dino has said in-game adjustments are a big part of what makes Rocky so good. Emily Leiker said on Axe's podcast that Rocky drew up a brand new play at halftime, had 2 mins to teach it to the D and they ran it in the second half. Benefit of having players and a coach who are so familiar with the scheme.
