I was hoping that the tap back into the backcourt would be an over and back. Is that expressly not the case, is it ambiguous, or was it missed.

Didn't it lead to a 3 as well? Another poster mentioned that the refs weren't swishing three for UVA, but the multitude of horrendous calls made a huge difference in a one-shot game.

After the shot Virginia would need to establish possession in the front court for it to be a violation

Yeah, but...

I thinking tapping it out should count as a "touch." And then, the team that touched it can't have it go into the backcourt.

When Mike Waters and Devo questioned that backcourt call on twitter you know it was wrong. We might not be experts but they are.

In this case, they’re both wrong. A “tap-out” off a missed shot, regardless of how intentional/controlled, can go into the backcourt & be retrieved without violation. Dolezaj, Chukwu, & Lydon used to do this all the time for us. NBA players do this on a nightly basis.

Why are these guys using digital clocks to measure these? They know it's human beings who do this without technology, right? Silly.
How else do you show the discrepancy between an actual 5 seconds and what they considered 5 seconds?

Show the refs arm.
Yeah we now know due to the digital clock that his arm was slow as hell. Would never blame this for the loss today but noteworthy that it’s pretty damn far over 5 seconds.

The refs can’t count to 5? It’s a cut-and-dry rule, with no interpretation.

what’s silly is people constantly defending officiating on this forum.

I beleive the reason for the stoppage after the no call on the tap out was a clock issue. When play resumed there was 23 on the clock. Shouldn't a new clock on a rebound be set to 20? It didn't factor in the out come, just prove the shotty job (and I do mean job) we got from the zebras today

i thought we caught a couple of breaks last 2 minutes. if buddy got fouled to tie it i didn't catch it.
virginia whistled for 3 fouls in the last minute ten. we had 1 intentional foul on kadary which could have been called in the act imo. i don't blame the refs today. 2 teams scrapped hard and 1 won.

I could be completely wrong but I thought that you are not allowed to move as an in-bounder after you have just called a TO prior to attempting to in-bound? Is that not the case?
