Rutgers on the schedule for 2020 and 2021 !!!

Makes more sense than playing Wisconsin. This is "smart" scheduling. Kudos to the AD and staff for making this move.

Rutgers, Kansas, Indiana, Maryland...these are the types of schools we need to schedule out of conference as our P5 opponent. While nothing is a gimmie they are games we have a realistic chance to win. Scheduling over our heads with Top 10 or Top 5 schools like LSU or Wisconsin is silly and had to stop. Rutgers isn't recruiting in our backyard but we can recruit in their's. So its a WIN-WIN for the Syracuse football program.

win, big deal its rutgirls.
lose, holy sheet su.
You do relize new jersey has a ton of talent that love to recruit and in fact thos new jersey guys where a major part of are success in the past we use to own that state.

We are now good for P5 opponents through 2026. Now let's get UB for 2020-2022...make Gov Cuomo happy

We should open each season with a game against Colgate in the Dome, then play a hone and Home with Army, then a MAC, C-USA type team, then a power conference team. the conference we should be in should be a conference of the best football schools in the Northeast, many of whom are also quite good in basketball: Syracuse, Boston College, Army, Navy, Connecticut, Rutgers, Temple, Penn State, Pittsburgh and West Virginia. You want 12? Add in Maryland and Notre Dame.

Candy and Nuts.

Would like to see SU go with mostly traditional opponents, which means Northeastern teams.

Here is a list of P5 teams we have played more than a dozen times including future schedules:

PSU (71), WV (60), RU (40+2), MD (36+1), ND (8+7)

Here is a list of G5 teams we have played more than ten times including future schedules:

Temple (36), Navy (27), Army (20+4), Cincy (13), UConn (10+1)

Here is a list of FCS teams we have played more than a half dozen times including future schedules:

Colgate (54), Holy Cross (27+1), Fordham (7)

Finally in the other G5 game play in a location where it can also be used as a recruiting visit:

Non AAC team from Fla, GA, Ohio, or VA

That's it, pretty simple. We shouldn't play a team outside of the above unless it is in a Bowl game. Besides the second G5 game there will be little variety. Which really isn't needed given how new all of our conference opponents are (especially the ACC Coastal). It provides fans easy roads trips, the team less travel, and hits all of our recruiting areas.

I have no desire to see, go to a game or play Rutgers eveeeer.

It’s good deal for both sides.
As each side will think they can sweep the other but it’s likely to be a split.

This is better than getting our brains kicked in by Wisconsin. Or them getting killed by UCLA.
Don’t want a long term deal but playing a home/home every decade is fine.

No way this is a split. HCDFB is going to remind people that Rutgers is SU's red-headed stepchild.

Dino Babers is undefeated vs. Rutgers.

He will remain that way going into 2022.

Already pumped. This just made too much sense to not happen. 20 year anniversary of 9/11. Should be a special day in The Dome.

20th anniversary of 9/11 was the first thing I thought of when I saw the date as well. I recommend that this board start a fundraising effort immediately aimed at purchasing tickets for Fort Drum soldiers, local fire fighters and police officers. This HAS to happen!

nothing good can come from this game.
Its an eastern rival from the big 10. It will generate a ton of clicks on this site:)

Was looking forward to the series with Wiscy - was perfect timing as Dino will have a fully capable roster by then.

Getting two easier wins on the schedule is nice too - but, meh

Metaphorically, it's like we gave up a trip to Disney World staying at the Beach Club in order to go to the County Fair and stay at a nearby Motel 6. But don't worry, if we have a productive trip to the County Fair, we win an all-expense paid trip to the third nicest RV park in Myrtle Beach.

I know I am in the minority, but that LSU trip/game last year was awesome and far outweighs playing in some third-tier bowl. This is a major downgrade. But this is definitely what Dino wants, and for this route, Rutgers is about as good an opponent as one could ask for.

They’re a big 10 team.

Syracuse just lost to a directional suny from the south and should’ve lost to a 1aa a year or so ago.

You can’t conquer NJ recruiting if you don’t play there.

This is perfect.

To be fair the last 2 seasons they have done military appreciation day where you could donate $20 for a ticket for a soldier.

Think it's a no brainer that game (normally around Veteran's Day) is moved to 9/11

This is a great game to play. We have to lose our superiority complex to Rutgers. That went out the window during our hibernation from relevance for the past 20 plus years.

We need to play them because it's a game that matters to fans now. With college realignment destroying geographical rivals it's fun to have one back on the schedule. The recruiting stuff is only a benefit as well.

Like I said, every year we should fill our OOC with Rutgers/WVU/Temple/Uconn/Maryland type games. It gives the schedule a sense of normalcy when our "conference" games now include teams we are just beginning rivalries with (NC State/Clemson/etc).
