Rutgers on the schedule for 2020 and 2021 !!!

I meant internet fans rivalry.
If you went to the Dome and didn’t read this board you wouldn’t consider Rutgers a rival.
Same for them go their stadium and poll non messageboard fans and they wouldn’t consider Syracuse a rival.

Thus it’s an internet thing.

Difference between rivalry and animosity between the fanbases.

There's a lot of animosity between the fanbases. And it will make the games more interesting. It might be the only time there's actually a back and forth on the message boards the week of the game.

That's a relic from the past.

Ty for the explanation. I get what your saying. I might go even further and just call it a message board thing since the Internet encompasses all forms of communication like Facebook, Twitter, etc. But it's been 10 years since the Grob/Schiano fued, the Ray Rice incident, etc. I know I know, at one time not even that long ago I argued the other side of this based on the message board feuds, geographic footprint, recruiting footprint, etc. But I don't care about them anymore except to laugh everytime they hit their thumb with the hammer. Hearing this news made me excited because it's a good chance to get a couple of B1G wins at G5 risk. They will not be the game I circle on the calendar that year. I doubt it will rank as one of the top 3 games at all that year. I will be much more interested in beating our ACC companions.

How the Syracuse football schedule gets made: Q&A with John Wildhack, Herm Frazier

"One nonconference game must be against a Power-Five opponent or select independent, such as Notre Dame, BYU or Army. Syracuse has met its Power-Five mandate through the 2026 season."
Analysis: Dino Babers' point about the schedule is a good one, so when will it get better?

"Analysis: Army, as an independent, won't meet the Power-Five mandate, so Syracuse will have to schedule an opponent from one of the major conference in 2023, 2024 and 2026."

These articles directly contradict each other. I've seen other information online that supports Army not meeting the requirement. Not saying whose right or wrong here but we need more information.

Army counts...I trust my source

Everything I can find online about Army says the SEC and Big 10 include Army but nothing about the ACC.

Let’s be honest when it comes to scheduling and SU there isn’t a good track record. Unless your source is Swofford we can’t be sure.

I don't think Army counts as P5 for ACC, only BYU/ND. B1G, B12, SEC yes but not ACC
Army definitely counts. Along with BYU and Notre Dame. And there are indications that the ACC will accept Navy even though they are not an independent. Look for the P5 mandate to include some additional approved exceptions in the very near future.

You've turned into Captain Contrarian.

As much as it may seem so, Rutgers isn't FCS or G5. They're P5.

ANY P5 win is a good win. You need to schedule 1 per year. So you find one nearby, in an area you'd like to recruit, provide an accessible away game for both locals and alums. And a team you have a good chance of beating. Oh, and one that has a 820 page, 70,000 count thread on our board.

It hits all the boxes.

Playing someone better and losing is still a loss. No one was talking about the MTSU loss when we beat Clemson. Because no one really cares after about a week.

What’s contrarian about an opinion some others agree with? I happen to think we’ll win both. But I’d think that way about several other comparable opponents. What many here are leaving out I’d that whether rurgirls is good or bad, the perception is that they suck. They are rutgirls. Even an army has more respect and our chances of winning both vs them is probably better.

Well then others here are wrong too.

Please list their names so we can properly mock them as well.

Rutgers, now stay with me here...is a Big 10 team.

Whether or not they are any good, no longer matters.

This is why we will never play storz st again, now that...that would be a bad loss. If we lose to a bottom feeding big 10 team, then we are still a bottom feeding ACC team.

No one will care 30 minutes later.

Hopefully they add Air Force too. Not that we would play them but the three service academies should all be considered equals.

The B1G counts UCONN and I believe Cincinnati .

win, big deal its rutgirls.
lose, holy sheet su.

This implies that extra OOC P5 game should be one that gets us "credit" if we win. (I also think losing to Rutgirls pains us here - but on the national level - no one will care either way).

Give me the increased odds of winning and one W closer to a bowl game over credit for beating a team we'll lose to 9 times out of 10 like LSU or USC. Playing FSU/Clemson every year and winning some of those will get us credit.

Is it a good game to schedule?
-Sure, it's a win in an area w/ recruits near our fans.

Is it a rivalry game?
Absolutely not. That thread, aside from being a continued embarrassment, is the embodiment of a select few who A) have pull on this site and B) have a weird fascination w/ Rutgers. It is not representative of the average SU fan in in any way, shape, or form. Let's stop making it more than it is.
