Rutgers on the schedule for 2020 and 2021 !!!

SU should play Rutgers every year on the same weekend that the southern ACC teams play their SEC in state rivals.

To be fair the last 2 seasons they have done military appreciation day where you could donate $20 for a ticket for a soldier.

Think it's a no brainer that game (normally around Veteran's Day) is moved to 9/11
Haha, I know, I kicked in 10 tickets last season. They did a great job with the calling efforts last season. But I would love it if they could get 10,000+ servicemen/Servicewomen to that game. I know I left a significant number of groups off that list that were first level responders, medical, etc.

On that particular anniversary, I just feel as though efforts need to be increased. If that means I have to kick in my season tix for that game, so be it. The University will put forth their efforts. Was just hoping someone else could QB a separate effort, because 2K service people is too little.

Good Lord, GRob isn't our coach anymore. Please pretend like you're a fan of a program with history that matters.

Rutgers isn't our rival any more than UConn, SUNY at Buffalo, and Akron are, and pretending like RU is something special for us makes us look pathetic.

And, if you think that RU is our rival, please start cheering for Princeton. They wear orange, and have a mutually agreed upon rivalry with Rutgers.

also unless we ask acc for a bye on 9/14/19 we will be hosting clemson as they are the only acc opponent available on that date unless we are playing 3 straight away
I'm not sure of the time line of Dome reno now that everything has seemed to have been delayed, but I think the original thought was SU would need the month of September to complete the project. So I wouldn't be surprised with a bye or another away game that week if the plan is still to have a phase completed by the end of September 2019.

This is a great game to play. We have to lose our superiority complex to Rutgers. That went out the window during our hibernation from relevance for the past 20 plus years.

We need to play them because it's a game that matters to fans now. With college realignment destroying geographical rivals it's fun to have one back on the schedule. The recruiting stuff is only a benefit as well.

Like I said, every year we should fill our OOC with Rutgers/WVU/Temple/Uconn/Maryland type games. It gives the schedule a sense of normalcy when our "conference" games now include teams we are just beginning rivalries with (NC State/Clemson/etc).
Here's the massive gaping flaw in your logic ... look at SU vs RU OOC (i.e. When we weren't forced to play each other because of conference affiliation). The number is surprisingly low because they aren't really a traditional opponent. Schools like WVU, PSU, Navy, and UMD are our traditional opponents. RU was a BIG EAST body bag game w/ all the excitement of rolling Temple, nothing more.

In Yankee Stadium on Thanksgiving weekend.
In that case ... definitely Good God, no!

Army would be 1,000x better.

Playing RU on Thanksgiving weekend in an iconic* venue would be analogous to admitting defeat in football, and turning into Kentucky.

Pitt, BC, PSU, Army, Navy, WVU, or UMD? Sure, absolutely. RU, UConn, SUNY at Buffalo, Temple, or UMass? God, no!

*I know it's not **the** Yankee Stadium, but it's still **a** Yankee Stadium.

I love this rivalry, and im sorry but a thread with over 200 pages of a team is definitely are RIVAL. Gimmee those New Jersey recruits baby! Tommy D comming home and embarrassing rutgirls.
No. It's just means we have a handful of fans who started watching SU in '05 and enjoy beating a dead horse from now until the end of days.

Syracuse should beat Army every time they play. Rutgers is an improving B1G team and will be a contested game. I like where JW is going with the scheduling, just add in some UMASS and Temple and I'm excited.

...Kansas is a P5 team, too. Are they legitimate competition? We've won 75-80% of our games against RU, and they're only improving because they went something like 1-11 two years ago. It's actually hard to stay that consistently bad.

And if play UMass and Temple "excites" you, then I'm beginning to understand your fascination w/ Rutgers. How do you feel about SUBY at Buffalo, UConn, and Maine?

Kansas is truly a sad sack football program. I have no affinity for SUNYAB football. I think SU should use all its G5 games on UCONN, UMASS, ARMY and Temple. And have RU as the P5 OOC as much as possible. Colgate, Stony Brook, Albany for FCS.

Not with Ash as their coach. However, I'd guess that by 2020, RU will have a new HC.
I think he will get some time. I'm still undecided on him. If he can focus his rage, he could be tough.

Rutgers sucks, so do their fans. I personally can't wait to kick their asses. Are they a rival? I used to think so. Now I think of them more like that guy who keeps hitting on your girlfriend and really has no shot but you still want to stomp on his balls for being a dbag. That being said, I disagree with the idea that this game is a lose-lose. Sure if we win it's only the 'Girls but it's not like they are FCS/G5. It's a B10 team and will help our conference in getting to the playoffs, we need NJ recruits, and it's a close enough game that our people will travel. So this whole idea that it's a bad idea to schedule this game I think is a knee-jerk reaction to the prior rivalry stuff. There's lots of good reasons to schedule it, and apparently Wildhack agrees.

win, big deal its rutgirls.
lose, holy sheet su.

You've turned into Captain Contrarian.

As much as it may seem so, Rutgers isn't FCS or G5. They're P5.

ANY P5 win is a good win. You need to schedule 1 per year. So you find one nearby, in an area you'd like to recruit, provide an accessible away game for both locals and alums. And a team you have a good chance of beating. Oh, and one that has a 820 page, 70,000 count thread on our board.

It hits all the boxes.

Playing someone better and losing is still a loss. No one was talking about the MTSU loss when we beat Clemson. Because no one really cares after about a week.

If we can’t beat Rutgers then we’re insignificant anyways.

I love it.
It’s not a long term series.
We are throwing DeVito a bone for when he should be the starter.
It’s not a good P5 team and it’s an even matchup.
We needed a P5 team replacement for Wisconsin and it’s fine.
Rutgers isn’t a real rival it’s an internet thing.

Rival or not, please stop saying it's an Internet thing. It makes you guys sound old. I work at a college and I can tell you that those Internet things are what most young people's lives revolve around. The Internet is part of every day life for most people so an Internet thing, is still a real thing.

I meant internet fans rivalry.
If you went to the Dome and didn’t read this board you wouldn’t consider Rutgers a rival.
Same for them go their stadium and poll non messageboard fans and they wouldn’t consider Syracuse a rival.

Thus it’s an internet thing.
