Rutgers on the schedule for 2020 and 2021 !!!

Kansas is truly a sad sack football program. I have no affinity for SUNYAB football. I think SU should use all its G5 games on UCONN, UMASS, ARMY and Temple. And have RU as the P5 OOC as much as possible. Colgate, Stony Brook, Albany for FCS.
Wait, but Rutgers doesn't have a truly sad program in your mind?

They beat UNC in a bowl recently and had a little run during Shady days.

Chip Kelly? Thanks but no thanks.

Yeah I'll pass on playing against his offense with even better west coast athletes than he had at Oregon.

I think this makes a lot of sense though. With Rutgers recent downturn compared to where they were during Schiano's years, NJ as a recruiting state is becoming more up for grabs.

Is it a rivalry game?
Absolutely not. That thread, aside from being a continued embarrassment, is the embodiment of a select few who A) have pull on this site and B) have a weird fascination w/ Rutgers. It is not representative of the average SU fan in in any way, shape, or form. Let's stop making it more than it is.

Ok so maybe that last part was a throw in. But you think this board won’t be a little more active the week leading up to that game each year? Especially since the game is early in the season when there is still hope.

We all like to believe that thread isn’t there. But then we read it, we post in it, we take a shower. Lather, rinse, repeat. I’ve accepted it.

Hopefully they add Air Force too. Not that we would play them but the three service academies should all be considered equals.
I think the exception for Navy would be primarily due to the geographic proximity to ACC schools much more than the military aspect. And once announced I think we will see some additional G5 schools in the East added as approved exceptions.

But then again...what do I know?

And KU won the B12 and capped off an 11-1 season by winning the 2008 Orange Bowl.

**To be very clear, I think that KU has a terrible program. My point isn't that they're good. It's that RU isn't tangibly better. They're both trash.**

Oh, I have no doubt that this board would be more active, but most of the added activity would be driven by that select few posters. The rest of the added activity (and probably then some) would be driven by other posters responding to the afore-mentioned select few.

Makes more sense than playing Wisconsin. This is "smart" scheduling. Kudos to the AD and staff for making this move.

Rutgers, Kansas, Indiana, Maryland...these are the types of schools we need to schedule out of conference as our P5 opponent. While nothing is a gimmie they are games we have a realistic chance to win. Scheduling over our heads with Top 10 or Top 5 schools like LSU or Wisconsin is silly and had to stop. Rutgers isn't recruiting in our backyard but we can recruit in their's. So its a WIN-WIN for the Syracuse football program.

Herm is finally getting it!

So, does this mean UCLA has an opening? I’d rather play them.
The West Coast trips to open the season are a bear. Fresno, WSU and then UW took its toll. RU won at WSU and lost at Fresno, 50-49 after a failed 2 Point attempt in multiple OT. As far as their bodies were concerned, the Fresno game ended at 3:15 AM EST. Although it’s sad not to be playing UCLA at the Rose Bowl, I’m sure the coaches (and me) are much happier opening up 4 hrs north in Syracuse over a 5.5 hr flight to LA and crossing 3 time zones.

20th anniversary of 9/11 was the first thing I thought of when I saw the date as well. I recommend that this board start a fundraising effort immediately aimed at purchasing tickets for Fort Drum soldiers, local fire fighters and police officers. This HAS to happen!

If you start it , I will open the donations with $144 with the goal of tossing in $44 every time I am feeling particularly flush (read: when I’m drinking)

Military is my favorite cause and I prefer the regocnition our group could receive rather than the anonymous donation that I did last year through cuse.com.

So looks like we need a home and home with a G5 team for ‘20 and 21 and an FCS team for 20 and we are set for the next four seasons.

I love this. Should be a winnable game if we want to think anything positive of ourselves. I'm not going to rewrite all the positive everyone else has mentioned already, I agree with it all.

One thing I didn't see mentioned, might have been from skimming through the thread... This game will bring some good exposure to our program that will be far greater than a game against Colgate and maybe even Wisconsin. Playing in Yankee stadium, previous BE teams, "local" teams to NYC - as the media will phrase it to make it more interesting, Schiano will be mentioned a million times but that just means the game is being talked about. This will be nothing but positive exposure for the program and it will be fluffed to death.

Schedule Albany again or Stony Brook, and Buffalo. Pay the SUNYs and maybe we'll get some help from the State when it comes time to move on the Dome.

I love the move. The more OOC games that we should win, the better. If we’re playing P5 teams out of conference, let it be the dregs like Rutgers, Kansas, etc. We play Clemson and FSU every year. Schedule in the ACC will always be brutal and we need W’s in the OOC.

In my mind, we've tried for decades to punch above our weight class OOC and it hasn't really worked out. If anything, we've been more likely to lose to teams below our weight class.

Scheduling lighter is something new. I don't mind a decent stretch of time to figure out if we do better with a lighter schedule.

Exactly how I feel and we don't have to do it forever. If we start to build some success, then we can look into playing better teams.

The ACC could designate UMASS as a P5 eligible win. I mean, there is no rhyme or reason to which teams are or aren't included. I say if your an independent , you get included.

Totally agree.

The chances of Syracuse making the F4...EVER...are Slim to none.

And Slim just bought a bus ticket out of town.

Therefore, since we already get FSU, Clemson and to a degree Lville and a likely top 20 team du jour just by nature of our conference, why over schedule the non conf stuff??

It would be flat out stupid.

A New Years Day Bowl would be nice, a great matchup during the week after a great 10-2 season, also super fantastic.

If we find ourselves routinely snubbed from the F4, won’t happen, then make a schedule adjustment.

But let’s be real, with our conf schedule, and going undefeated...then the F4 WOULD happen.

People crying about Rutgers are pathetic.

Why are we so scared to play in NJ???

It’s one of the best states in the country at producing talent and out closest one and best shot to get 4 & 5 Star Recruits.

Add to the fact, why worry about making the 4 when we can't even make The Dollar Tree bowl in Sheboygan.

I’m looking at it from a fan’s perspective. I’d rather go to LA and watch my favorite childhood team. Driving 20 minutes to see a school whose athletic department is being subsidized by my tax dollars is not what I call a road trip coup.

Sure, that would be great if I was 25 again, but that will have been 25years ago by kickoff.

I’m looking at it from a fans perspective too.

I need 5 tickets.

I don’t want to need 5 flight tickets as well...and what at least 2 nights of hotels and about 35 meals??

No thank you.

This game is daytrippable for DC, philly, NYC and CNYers.

And again, as a fan, I want good local recruits to keep going to Cuse. We will never sustain anything in SoCal.

Grand Slam scheduling.

Nobody can complain that it’s at Giants Stadium...and only 60k showed up...and most rooted for the other team...and the stadium looked empty anyway.

We are a road team who historically showed well there, they come back to the Dome and we should win them both.

Double Grand Slam scheduling.
