BTW, the melancholy lyric was written by Rodger Penzabene, who had written the joyous lyric for another Temptations' hit "You're My Everything". Penzabene penned this lyric after having found out that his wife was cheating on him. On New Year's Eve 1967, a week after the song was released, Penzabene committed suicide. For those that don't know, this song is about Gord Downie's sister and young nephew who died at the age of 5 who had a heart condition. Beautiful song that they wouldn't play for years. Then they brought it back after sufficient time had passed.
