This Just In

Brett McMurphy of CBS Sportsline and ESPN are reporting that Pitt and Syracuse have officially applied for application to the ACC.

That is a lot stronger than the rumors flying around last night.

Ike Bogosian was a co-captain with future New York Giants running back Joe Morris in his senior season at Syracuse, 1981, the first year the program was led by coach Dick McPherson.

Former Players

“A lot of things factor into running the ball. The play first of all has to be blocked correctly. People have to block their men. You have to create movement at the point of attack so you can get a surge and get the momentum to go. Obviously, we need to get better in short yardage and goal line.”

The Cowboys recognize the issue. They’ve addressed it this week by re-signing fullback Tony Fiammetta and have veteran Derrick Dockery (6-6, 325) at first-team left guard instead of injured seventh-round pick Bill Nagy (6-3, 303).

You see these ACC to 16 proposals, and you want to puke. People talking about adding basketball onlies and creating another hybrid conference - don't you get it? That's why the Big East broke up. Because basketball only guys were running the league, so football and basketball could never be integrated and work together. You can't just recreate that mistake in your new conference. Whoever joins whatever new conferences take shape, and personally, I think the Big East or Big 12 might survive with different member mixes because of the value of the brand of the conference and its existing contractual ties - more contracts get renegotiated than get cancelled outright - and these teams have to land SOMEWHERE. The NCAA can't permit so many teams to be without conferences; they will all have to come back together in some, somewhat-familiar form.
