some contact the athlete directly. But also the athletes are being taught/shown/guided in how to market themselves, how to make a brand and how to increase their social media influence. But make no mistake, some schools are using NIL as a recruiting tool (illegal) and getting deals for them (illegal) according to that article posted someplace here.

to add to this, the athlete can sign with an agent to handle their NIL deals now.

I do not believe that the schools name or logos can be on anything "official" for the athlete. Like Buddy's "Buddy's bucket" t-shirts did not have any mention of Syracuse on them.

Wow, I must have been looking at a knockoff site before. Thanks for clarifying! That is why it is important to make sure that when you do buy this stuff, how to get it comes from the athlete selling it. This is what I found about this topic. "The student cannot use the intellectual property of their school when they do monetize their NIL. This means that students can’t wear their uniforms, for example, or use any of the university’s logos or other trademarks in sponsored posts." Not sure how much this clarifies things, but maybe he can see a jersey with his name on it.

Syracuse IS HOWEVER, one of only a couple schools in the nation who make deals with the player, allowing the "S" for instance to be a part of the merch.

"Syracuse partnered with star guard Buddy Boeheim, son of legendary coach Jim, on apparel that features his own personal logo—a silhouette of Buddy, midshot—accompanied by the school’s block S. The reveal of the apparel shook administrators who are apprehensive about athletes using school marks because they believe the practice will impact their contracts with trademark licensing companies that pay schools millions annually for the right to those marks. “Some universities are scared of it,” says Syracuse director of compliance Mark Wheeler, who helped orchestrate Boeheim’s deal. “We viewed it as more of a positive.”

Syracuse deputy athletic director Andrew Goodrich says that he already hears prospects asking the question: Will I be able to use school marks? The issue is big enough for athletes that in August, Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh brought the chairman of the school’s board of regents to practice to inform players that they could, in fact, use UM’s block M logo in their own commercial transactions. When can we bypass the requirement to buy merchandise to support a player and go directly to a gofundme kind of scenario where a larger percentage of fan money goes directly to the player? I’d love to support Tucker but would prefer some way where he’d get a larger cut than the merchandiser gets. I love T-shirt’s but my real goal would be to support Tucker, not T-shirt World or their ilk. I feel the same way about Girl Scout cookies. I’d prefer to support the Girl Scouts than the bakers that give them a small percentage of the proceeds. JMHO...
