SEC and BCS

I brought this up earlier in the year but what if Arkansas beats LSU and the UGA wins the SEC CG?

So going into the SEC CG the BCS would look like...

1. Bama
2. LSU
3. Ark
4. Okie St

That would likely put Bama in the SEC CG. So if UGA beats Bama, you could see...

1. LSU
2. Ark
3. Okie St

What happens for the NCG? By rule 1 and 2 are supposed to play (LSU vs Ark). However by rule the SEC can only have 2 teams (LSU and UGA). So does Okie St get in instead?

The SEC could actually have three SEC teams under the scenario of UGA winning the SECC. Here's the wording from the BCS site:

No more than two teams from a conference may be selected, regardless of whether they are automatic qualifiers or at-large selections, unless two non-champions from the same conference are ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the final BCS Standings.

Does the SEC CG winner have to get BCS? I would assume so, so I think it probably would be LSU v Okie St.

Looks like that 2nd paragraph opens the door for 2 of LSU, Bama, Ark in nat'l champ game and Ga in Sugar Bowl. Or am I reading that wrong?

Which is BS in my mind. In any of the scenarios where UGA knocks off one of the one-loss teams SEC West teams that play in the SECC, you could then have two teams that not only didn't win their conference, but also that didn't win their division playing for the BCS title.

Hopefully, this will discussion will become a moot point on Friday, if LSU can handle Arkansas. I plan have my kids up early enough on Friday morning that we can get into Syracuse before 230PM and watch the game at some bar around campus.

I understand what you are saying but if somehow LSU beats Arkansas and then loses to UGA ... you would have Bama and LSU with each 1 loss ... who else would you put in the NCG ahead of them? Honestly they are the top 2 in NCAA football right now ... of course Bama man handled Arkansas and I expect LSU to do the same. Other than Okie State who else has just one loss that really belongs? And that is assuming Okie State beats OU.

Switch LSU-Bama and it's going to look like that later today

If Stanford puts a beating on Notre Dame on national tv next Saturday (which I think they will). And if Oklahoma beats Okie St...assuming LSU runs the table you will get LSU vs Stanford.

Take it to the bank

That might happen but they don't deserve to be in the NC game and will get smacked around like a red-headed stepchild ... and you can take that to the bank ... although not sure how beating ND helps them that much ... I mean if anything I would expect their BCS ranking to suffer due to the Oregon loss since their SOS stands to get hurt since Oregon will tumble in the rankings ... they would have to blast ND and get help boosting their SOS to climb in the BCS.

Any non-SEC team vs LSU will get smacked around you can't use that as a criteria. A lot of voters are NOT going to want to see an ALL SEC championship game I expect those final polls to reflect that. Now what the computer spits out is one thing, but I think the human element will try NOT for an all SEC game

I don't disagree which is why I don't expect a Bama/LSU rematch although I would love to see it ... I have a lot of friends that are Bama fans and I enjoy watching them play ... my neighbor is rocking her Bama flag in the front yard again this week ... down in my neck of the woods they do have a big following ... not UGA big but still pretty big.

I really don't know. VT is the only other realistic one loss possibility, but they have played an extremely weak schedule. A VT-OSU matchup would have two potential conference champions, but would be a lousy game. I really think it is past time for a playoff. The potential mess might be a nail in the coffin for the BCS system, especially since everything sounds like it is up for negotiation in the 2013 renewal.
