Class of 2024 SG Aiden Tobiason (DEL) TRANSFERRING TO SYRACUSE (4/13/26)

Maybe GMAC is planning on a team can wall up and guard ball screens. Folifac is hopefully next. Then a Center who can post up and another who can move & defend 1-5. Its a lot to ask. But SU needs two more Centers and a PG. Maybe Europe will continue to provide answers.
Don’t know how true it is but some Siena fans are saying George Mason and other DMV area teams are very high on Folifac.

This is exactly what I've got my fingers crossed for.

Gerry has been specific about placing high value for on ball defenders and defensive intensity. Having versatile players with length who can guard multiple positions vs screening and PR sets seems like the desired profile.

Your analysis never factors in defense.
Which is exactly what GMAC is building -- a good defense. Siena was Top 15 in the country last year in points allowed. They held Duke to 72 in the Tournament. (SU allowed Duke to score103 folks). Even St. Johns, with one of the best defenisve coaches out there in HOFamer Rick Pitino allowed Duke to score more. In fact, if St. Johns could have held Duke to 72 - they would have won and advanced.

That pointed out, you're spot on Scotch. Dual is SU's best player right now - according to Evan Miya -- and Dual was better offensively ly than every single SU player other than Kingz and George. It's fair to say that Dual is also a stud athlete and that is kind of theme that GMAC is taking to heart as he builds his roster. GMAC wants athletic, switchable defenders, he wants some shooters as well.

GMAC is doing a really solid job building a roster smartly - he's been charged to do more with less NIL than most top tier teams have to spend. SU's plan revolves around getting the right players - not marquee names, but guys who can be part of a culture built on Effort and Respect. GMAC will assemble this roster and try to teach them to win -- which is something he's done his whole life.

There is no perfect zone team now that the three-point line has been moved back. That was the death of the 2-3 zone I think. It was never the same aftert that move.
When they started doubling the guy upfront and not downlow on sidelines they would always leave a guy open. 2 guys up three back and they turned it into 3 up and 2 back and sf would slide up to double a guard who would zip it around to open guy. We never did that before. Started about 2014 when we weren’t as good. I need a true zone guy explain why that would work.

I'll get slapped for this, but we are building the perfect zone team in Dual, Doty, Tobiason, and Sadiq.
I was thinking this a few days ago. GMAC did admit that he'll play a little zone, but he did stress that he's comitted to his switching, M2M scheme. Many of the SU players on this roster can switch and guard on ball screens. Once GMAC finishes this roster off, hopefully with Folefac and at least one more Center, he'll have assembled a team that can shoot, rebound and defend.

At the end of the day, the goal is to score more points than the other team. There are multiple ways to skin that cat, but I like GMAC's vision.

Old fart fans like me want to see the Louie-Bowie show or we want Sherm and DC..etc. Times have changed. GMAC is building a promising product so far. 7 more roster spots remain. I'm finding myself paying attention. I'm intrigued.

Good post.

But I think only one more center -- Goodrick is already in the fold.

Seems like a logjam of players we are recruiting at 2/3, Doty and KA Are already here. MM High level Euro commit noted as well. How many more commit? And the question is is who is going to sit? In any event if we are good I do not see GM playing more than 8, EVER. I suspect if you're a defensive liability you will be riding the bench
If Tobiason is 6'7" work a 7' wing span, he should be able to play a stretch four alongside three tall guards effectively. Especially if we have a truely large big in the middle.

From one old fart to another - nice post - still wish we could land a PG like Sherman Douglas or someone like Derrick Coleman or the Louie and Bouie show. Those were great days.

Hopefully we have more great days ahead.

Just watched some tape of him. It’s all offense, so I’ll just have to take his coach’s word that he’s a really good defender.

Offensively, he got a plus handle for his size. Does a nice job creating space for his looks and has the ability to finish at the rim.

Average athleticism, but his length helps mitigate that.

Nice high release, which at his size should allow him to shoot over defenders at the ACC level. Also displays a good mid range game which will be important in the ACC. He can beat his defender, but I don’t think he’s going to make a living attacking the rim in our league.

Would like to see him put on 5-10 pounds to help him withstand the grind next year. He looks a tad wispy.

Reminds me a bit of Raf Addison. Really good get.

Love the Addison comp. Hugely underrated - one of my favorites.

What was it that OiG was saying the other day about how all of our players are kinda unproven but could make a leap? Got another one lol. Real intriguing player.
Unproven, but still averaged 15.3 at Temple?

I get the American is the 9th best conference, but it isn't the MAAC.

I won't go into it on this thread, but there's no chance White is under 1 million. It has been said by multiple insiders that he got a "substantial" raise to stay.
White was just under 1 million. That I know. Now, I don't know what Aiden cost us. I'm sure it was a pretty penny. But before this, there was no way we were at 5 million. We have enough money for a solid 5 and then some.

Donnie should have made less compared to George. George would have LEAD the ACC in assists if Donnie had played even close to what he was paid for.
this is crazy...George was and will forever be terrible...He throws five alley oops per game to invisible players or to defenders. I can never get this year back of having to watch him play...he pretty much owes me money for having to watch that crap.
