Class of 2022 SG Chance Westry (PA / AZ Compass Prep) TRANSFERRING TO SYRACUSE (4/17/23)

Guys, I know we got a few years before he would step on campus but Westry is tiny for the back line, both Height and weight. If you think Eli and Mal Mal struggled on the back side, Westry would even more. He's a guard through and through. He would get punished down there.
He’s listed at 6’4 190 and won’t step foot on campus for another 2.5 years. Is it crazy to think he might hit campus 6’6 205? A lot can happen in those 2.5 years especially for a kid who is still growing. Malachi put on decent weight before he got to campus.

I’ve also thought maybe JB goes man in 2022 to maximize the offensive talent.

That's a what if.
If we ran m2m, it would be no problem with running him out there but even a 6'6 205 (which is exactly Mal right there), it's a struggle for them. JB will make it work (hopefully) but I think an experienced Richmond might be more ideal on the back line than Westry.
Luckily Westry has really long arms so let's hope.

I honestly see -

Dior
JG3
Westry
Benny
Mac

Kadary
Anselem
Woody

Close but I think it would look like
Dior
JG3
Benny
Anselem
Mac

Westry
Kadary
Ajak

Think Westry and Kadary play the Scoop and Joseph role when they came off the bench. Obviously very different players but I think that’s how they would be used.

I don’t see Dior or JG3 coming out much in this rotation but Kadary is the clear 3rd guard. Westry comes in at the 3 spot, can move Benny to the 4 if needed and Frank to Center if needed. In a pinch Westrycan play the 2 as well. Ajak would be a solid back up 5 in a pinch. And who knows we still might end up with Zion Cruz, that will be a log jam of talent and this team would be loaded. A very versatile team as well.

I agree totally - I think you gotta take Westry then figure it out

Love that lineup and bench firepower. It would also set up VERY nice for 2023.

Senior Kadary/Sophomore Chance up top; wow!

Agreed! With the increase in talent you are looking at a sustained return to glory for the Cuse. Back to our rightful place in the top 10 with very realistic annual Final Four aspirations and reloading every year. I actually think the return starts this season if Griffin is eligible.

Cuse!

We’ll see about Kadary playing point. He definitely needs to work on his handles to play point, I see him more as a true slashing 2. But that’s a few years away so he can definitely have handled for a point guard by then.

I also think we bring in a pretty big time PG for 2023. At least I would think that’s the goal for the coaches.
You have the big time freshman PG, Kadary at the 2 and Westry at the 3 (assuming he stays another year). Now this is a LONG ways away but I would assume that’s how the staff would plan this out lol

You mean a PG like 2023 Aden Holloway who we were the first to offer?

You think Kadary needs help with being a lead guard? By all accounts it's what's natural for him and his biggest positive besides slashing and control pace.
He ran point for arguably best HS team in america, even over Clarke who wanted to be a pg bad. His shooting needs some work, no question but he can play point right now for our team.

Better handle than anyone on the team and it is NOT close...

Huh. To my eye, Kadary will likely have the best handle on the team...by far (before Dior gets here anyway). From his tapes, his skill set screams slashing PG who can create for others or finish at the rim with either hand. IF Dior, Kadary and Westry are on the floor at the same (several suppositions there, but certainly a possibility). I can see Kadary at the 3 on defense because of his length.

we will get chance. Not Cruz
I would much rather have Chance. Cruz is a nice player and will be a good college player. Chance looks like the complete package. Size, athletic ability, smarts, he can shoot, dribble, pass, defend, rebound. And he has that crazy competitve thing going. It is a compelling package.

Roddy and Chance going head to head every day would make for some insane practices. Both players would benefit hugely.

Several people have mentioned that Roddy might be the best of the lot. We need to lock him down, especially if he wants to be here.

Seems to me staff is prioritizing Westry. Not convinced they would realistically try for both
