SG Kiyan Anthony (NY) COMMITTED & SIGNED TO SYRACUSE (11/15/24)

“15 is retired,’’ Kiyan Anthony said. “I’m not gonna take that away from my dad.’’

Good thinking because Carmelo wasn’t going to let his son wear his No. 15 anyway.

“He ain’t getting it, he ain’t getting it,’’ Carmelo said with a laugh.

Kiyan said he would go with a number other than the No. 3 he currently wears while playing for Long Island Lutheran High School.

Instead of 15, Kiyan Anthony said he will wear another number associated with his father, but not with his days at Syracuse.

He plans to wear the number his father wore with the New York Knicks.

“I will probably wear number 7, for sure,’’ he said.

Can the bullshit of playing in Barclays vs MSG end next year?

Great class but next season feels like a decade away with how this one has started.

Reading the scouting report on 247, I hope people will let Kiyan be Kiyan. He sounds like a great prospect who still has a lot of developing to do. He's not going to be the kind of player Carmelo was but he could be a very good player indeed if we are patient with him.

Hopefully Melo is willing to help the staff with whatever they need in order to get the pieces they need to help Kiyan and, in turn Cuse, be successful.

What? You want him to help SU recruit guys that might take some of his son’s playing time??

Sorry……couldn’t help myself.

That would be amazing if he was, tbh. lol
Guess GMac certainly isn’t sensitive over his SU jersey #. Looked it up and Mookie Jones, Dion Waiters, Jerami Grant, Carter Sanderson ,Shaun Belby, Andrew White, Judah Mintz, and now Lucas Taylor all have worn #3 since he did. :)

I rarely post, but this is some absolutely wonderful sh$t. As my little brother who is a frequent poster on this board will recount, we grew up here. This is us. And we watched all the greats ... Pearl, DC, Sherm, Billy, Ronny, Wallace. It was truly the best that hoops could produce and they did it in our simple, backwood upstate NY town. When Melo came along after an NIT finish, it was a callback to what we had seen when Coleman was grabbing boards and running the break ... only more "contemporary." But it finished in the greatest way imaginable. That is not the expectation here. But damn does it feel good to connect these pieces through what this program and town has always been about. Family.

I shared this last night on here so clearly they read the board lol. But Melo has been here quite often and will be here a ton. He has already worked on some NIL stuff behind the scenes. Kiyan has a pretty big deal lined up already with a group here in cuse. I don’t think people are understanding what this is going to do for the program and community.

Melo is a very well liked, well respected member of the basketball community. Not just in Cuse Nation but almost universally everywhere.

Lots of eyes will be on our program next year. And it should pay dividends with someone like Donnie Freeman who may want to come back or not. Plus transfer dudes.

Plus, the attendance and the atmosphere in the Dome should be elevated and hopefully our schedule reflects that.

The really nice thing about Kiyan's progression and recruitment was that we were all able to track his progress from the time he first touched a basketball knowing there was a 90%+ chance he would end up at the Cuse.

Quite different from when some 9th grader says he is a Cuse fan........we all know how those usually turn out.

We are on our way back - we are finally accumulating enough talent to get back into the Top 20 !!! Should be there within the next two years. It will be really great if we can get two years or more out of Freeman, White, and Kiyan (I also have a really good feeling about Fennell), will need some overlap and experience to really gel.
