Well, I guess we will see. To me you are more interested in potential deficits than any thing else. He already has in my opinion a better mid range game than anyone on this team right now. He definitely needs to get stronger and he’s also playing a ridiculously competitive high school schedule while being on a tremendously gifted high school team. Are you aware of that but we definitely appreciate your insight. How about that for an assessment? The commentators noted that he was something like 5-25 from three so far this year (and since his injury). He has a good mid range shot, but he’s not out athlete-ing anyone and needs to be better from three as a 2 guard to be of benefit to next years team. His defense was okay, but not great.
Sorry if you don’t agree with my assessment, but I just don’t think we should expect to count on him to make us good next year. He can be a piece, like Elijah this year, but he doesn’t look to be an impact freshman.

I know LuHi is supposed to be pretty good, but looks like Oak Hill might have dropped a few notches since Smith retired.
The pessimists are now actively seeking me out. How about this Red is not going anywhere and there is going to be another massive purge. Hint, it will not be Red wooooooooooooo hooooooooooooo. yayayayayayayayayayayayayayayayayayyayayayayayayy yes, that was so exhilarating. Thanks"To me you are more interested..." in ignoring basic stats.
A better midrange game than anyone on the team? As i've said, he does have certain high-level skills that i hope will help him create shot opportunities. Like Buddy did. But, rationalizing his low shot percentage as being a result of playing a "ridiculously competitive high school schedule" ignores that it's still 'just' high school. The competition will be stiffer next year, not lesser.
Back to the comparison vs the current SU team—i would suggest that if you looked at their high school tapes, you'd see some of the same mid-range (and deeper) proficiencies. Moore, specifically. Probably Carlos, as well. You don't score back to back to back to back 70+ games without skills at that level. Since Cuffe was a transfer, i don't recall if i went back to see his HS tape, but you don't go to Kansas without some promise. JJ was kind of a HS star. But, it's how they translate against consistently older, bigger, stronger, faster college players is what decides careers.
There isn't one of us here who doesn't hope Kiyan is/becomes a star. Some of us are more pragmatic, given the numbers he does and doesn't put up at a lower level. As for the characterization that he/we are more interested in "potential deficits," I can only offer this: it's a reaction to the suggestion that Kiyan is some sort of coach saver, that we should be tying another year of Red to maintaining Kiyan's commitment. That's basically it. Everyone is happy he signed with us. Everyone. Some just don't want him to be a program decider or to have the pressure of unrealistic expectations.

If Red is around next year this team still isn't making the NCAA tournament. The pessimists are now actively seeking me out. I think I mentioned that I was told that if Melo is starting here next year, we are in trouble.
He’s too old but is still better than what we have.I think I mentioned that I was told that if Melo is starting here next year, we are in trouble.
Seeking You out? That’s a delusional persecution complex. You actually chose to argue someone’s stats, and instead of contradicting him by refuting those stats or posting more favorable facts, you actually made a ridiculous psychological assessment of the poster’s motivations. The pessimists are now actively seeking me out. yesKiyan, do you mean?
We would struggle with the 1975 team we saw last SaturdayHe’s too old but is still better than what we have.
And the NCAA might possibly rule that he has three years of eligibility left. Sue the fokkers. He’s too old but is still better than what we have.
Those guys looked like they can cover the corner 3We would struggle with the 1975 team we saw last Saturday
Even in the case of Cooper Flagg. I’m not sure they would be top 5 and National Championship favorite good without the experience Tyrese Proctor brings. Granted without Proctor they would still be Top 10 and a contender. In this new age of bball and NIL, freshman do not make winning teams, with the rare exception of someone like cooper flagg. Which Kiyan and Sadiq are not. Better off getting older mature players, the key is just selecting the right ones! And keep the bench short, like an 8 or 9 man team. Rest walk-ons.
Thanks but no thanks ZZ, I am cracking up, noooo Puuuuuunnnnnnn intended. Just a Syracuse guy, IMO pretty objective. I did not say he was Lawrence Moten BTW. I just think we currently have some limitations. No worries! I have a question for you, do you think Coach Red is the man for the job, why?, why not?Seeking You out? And now, to bolster your ‘argument,‘ you’re just making random ’noises.’ Check out the big brain on GHLF!
That’s great news. Obviously take that to mean he’s not very good.I think I mentioned that I was told that if Melo is starting here next year, we are in trouble.
This is a Kiyan thread. If you really want to see my opinion of Red as a coach, it’s available elsewhere. Thanks but no thanks ZZ, I am cracking up, noooo Puuuuuunnnnnnn intended. By starting, do you mean playing big minutes?I think I mentioned that I was told that if Melo is starting here next year, we are in trouble.
We haven't even started the portal.By starting, do you mean playing big minutes?
Anyway you slice it, I think we are in big trouble because I don’t see who (currently) is blocking Kiyan’s minutes
